Course Philosophy and Instructor Requirements
Philosophy:
This course is designed to give students the skills necessary for communicating
with hospital personnel via the 2-way radio while engaged in patient care, as will
as the written report and interpersonal communications necessary in the
Prehospital setting. Along with Pharmacology math including a review of
fractions, decimals and percentages used in calculation of oxygen levels and
assisting with patient medications usage.
Instructor Objectives: The instructor’s teaching techniques should ensure that
the students are able to:
 Identify correctly intravenous fluids.
 Understanding and application of signs and symptoms for trauma
emergencies in the pre-hospital setting.
 Utilize classroom role playing during skill labs to give the EMT students
hands on patient care prior to visiting clinical and field internship sites.
 Communication skills need to converse with others in the medical field by
the proper use of medical terminology.
Course Teaching Requirements: The following should be followed by all
instructors teaching this course (online and in the traditional setting).
 It is necessary to cover all chapters in the ACLS for EMTs book.
 Cover chapters 4 & 5 in the Brady Prehospital Emergency Care book.
 Utilize classroom role playing during skill labs to give the EMT students
hands on patient care.
 The final exam must have a comprehensive component and must be
proctored.
Assessment Responsibilities: Instructors teaching this course (online and
traditional) will be expected to participate in assessment activities as dictated by
the division. You will be given further information/instructions by the lead
instructor during the term assessments are to be completed.
