Curriculum Development ECH 2123 Course Philosophy and Instructor Requirements Philosophy: This course is designed provide students with an understanding of various child curriculum material available and how to implement and assess the curriculum to make sure state benchmarks are being met. Learning Outcomes: Assessment should measure communication, critical thinking, and appropriate social science research skills, as well as student awareness of self and society and knowledge of factual content. Instructor Objectives: The instructor’s teaching techniques should ensure that the students are able to: Research what curriculum materials are available Create classroom activities and lesson plans that promote education of the whole child Examine ways to assess children through Work Sampling, Portfolios, etc. Create a unit that includes math, science, literacy, social studies, music, art and physical education aspects Course Teaching Requirements: The following should be followed by all instructors teaching this course (online and in the traditional setting). All chapters should be covered during the semester. It is not necessary to cover these chapters in order. They can be covered in whatever order the instructor chooses as long as they are covered in the course of the semester. Students will create a 1 week unit with lesson plans and activities to include in the on-going program portfolio. The final exam must have a comprehensive component and must be proctored. Assessment Responsibilities: Individual Early Childhood Education Courses are not assessed. However, each instructor is responsible for the accomplishment of course objectives which will enable a successful program assessment.
