World Regional Geography, GEOG 2603 Course Philosophy and Instructor Requirements Philosophy: This course is designed to give students a basic knowledge of geography with emphasizes on the interaction of humans and their physical and cultural environments. Learning Outcomes: Assessment should measure communication, critical thinking, and appropriate social science research skills, as well as student awareness of self and society and knowledge of factual content. Instructor Objectives: The instructor’s teaching techniques should ensure that the students are able to: Examine current developments around the world that affect physical and cultural settings. Analyze physical settings including topography, resources, climates, and environmental conditions. Analyze the cultural settings including population, political structures, life styles, economics, and customs. Analyze and interpret a variety of geographic resources and use primary and secondary sources, maps, pictorial and graphic evidence. Course Teaching Requirements: The following should be followed by all instructors teaching this course (online and in the traditional setting). All chapters in the book should be covered. They can be covered in whatever order the instructor chooses as long as they are covered in the course of the semester. The locations of countries, capitals and major landforms should be covered in all of the six regions in preparation for the map assessment quiz. The final exam must have a comprehensive component and must be proctored. Assessment Responsibilities: Instructors teaching this course (online and traditional) will be expected to participate in assessment activities as dictated by the division. You will be given further information/instructions by the lead instructor during the term assessments are to be completed.
