Sensation and Perception PSY 2553 Course Philosophy and Instructor Requirements Philosophy: In this course students will examine sensory processes and perceptual phenomena. Learning Outcomes: Assessment should measure communication, critical thinking, and appropriate social science research skills, as well as student awareness of self and society and knowledge of factual content. Instructor Objectives: The instructor’s teaching techniques should ensure the students are able to: a. Learn the major components of the eye and their functions b. Learn the various theories used in studying perception c. Learn the role science believes play in the nature verses nurture controversy Course Teaching Requirements: The following should be followed by all instructors teaching this course (online and in the traditional setting) 1. Chapters 1-9 plus the appendix 2. The following should be completed by each student a. Read the appendix – complete writing assessment b. Read each chapter one through nine 3. An exam should be given over each chapter 1-9 a. Exams should be either objective or essay 4. The final exam should be comprehensive a. The final exam should be an objective exam b. The final exam should represent the work covered over the term c. The value of the final should be 100 points. Assessment Responsibilities: Instructors teaching this course on line and traditional will be expected to participate in assessment activities as dictated by the division.
