OB/GYN/Neonatal, EMS 2402 Course Philosophy and Instructor Requirements Philosophy: This course includes etiology and treatment of obstetrical emergencies, the normal and abnormal events associated with pregnancy and childbirth, initial care and resuscitation of the neonate and gynecological emergencies. Recognizing and managing these events and assisting in abnormal birth in the prehospital setting. Instructor Objectives: The instructor’s teaching techniques should ensure that the students are able to: Identify signs and symptoms of emanate birth. Neonate CPR skills Identify and treat prehospital gynecologic emergencies. Identify and treat abnormal birth emergencies. Course Teaching Requirements: The following should be followed by all instructors teaching this course (online and in the traditional setting). It is not necessary to cover all chapters in the book. However, the following chapters must be covered by all instructors: chapters 13 and 14 in Brady Paramedic Care Vol. 3 and 1, 2 and 3 in Brady Paramedic Care Vol. 5. It is not necessary to cover these chapters in order. They can be covered in whatever order the instructor chooses as long as they are covered in the course of the semester. The final exam must have a comprehensive component. Assessment Responsibilities: Instructors teaching this course (online and traditional) will be expected to participate in assessment activities as dictated by the division. You will be given further information/instructions by the lead instructor during the term assessments are to be completed.
