A Christian nativity scene and a Christmas tree are on display at the Florida Capitol, which didn’t sit well with Deerfield Beach resident Chaz Stevens, who applied to put a Festivus pole on display as a protest. Much to his surprise, Stevens’ request was granted. Traditions include the "Airing of Grievances" and "Feats of Strength," where the head of a household challenges someone to a wrestling match, not to mention the erection of an unadorned aluminum pole. Florida's Department of Management Services says that as long as it meets guidelines and there is space available in the capitol, they’re happy to allow all cultures, denominations, committees and groups to put up their holiday displays. Good looks not only help in the workplace, now they say it helps with grades in high school. A new study of almost 9,000 high school students has found that those rated by others as better-looking had higher GPAs. However, they found that while good looks translate to better grades in high school, the super-attractive didn't have an extra advantage in their GPAs. They added that when the better-looking get better grades, they’re more likely to get a college degree, setting them up for economic advantages down the line as well. Researchers now say that girls who reach puberty early might be more likely than their peers to get into fights or skip school. The study found that girls who reach puberty before age 11 were more likely to admit to a "delinquent act," such as getting into fights at school, skipping classes and running away from home. There are a number of theories as to why this is with one being that these girls look older and are treated by others as older, even though they’re not necessarily developing any quicker emotionally and socially.
