Some 3.9 million viewers tuned in to the Syfy channel to see the Sharknado movie
the other night. I didn’t watch the Sharknado movie on Syfy, but I did watch the

Some 3.9 million viewers tuned in to the Syfy channel to see the Sharknado movie

Show set. I hadn’t seen Matt stab anything in the back like that since Ann Curry.
Jay Leno was the guest mentor last night on Last Comic Standing. Jay gave the

The biopic “Get on Up” opens tonight. It’s all about legendary soul singer James
Brown, who was the hardest working man in show business. Of course, nowadays
the hardest working man in show business is Orlando Bloom’s boxing coach.
Russell Brand has gotten into a feud with Fox News host Sean Hannity over his
reporting on the war in the Middle East. Of course, one is a trusted, reliable
authoritative source and the other is Sean Hannity.
Violet Palmer, the NBA’s first female referee, has announced she’s marrying her

TINSELTOWN TATTLER…
Former "Scandal" star COLUMBUS SHORT was due in court on Wednesday to
appear before a judge in his domestic violence case. However, Short was a no
show and there could be jail time in his future as the judge issued an arrest warrant.
It turns out that Short was living large in the Caribbean at a festival called Fantasy
Barbados and photos of him partying have surfaced online, along with a poster
promoting his appearance at an event there, which will no doubt be brought to the
judge’s attention.
Former Partridge Family star DAVID CASSIDY’S DUI case in upstate New York
has been adjourned until September as his lawyer and prosecutors continue to try
and hammer out a plea deal. Cassidy was busted last summer and was supposed to
be in court this week, but the court was told that he was home in Florida. However,
it was revealed that he was actually in the area at a horse-racing event at Saratoga.
No word on whether his horse naturally won, but one prosecutor admitted they
were “disturbed” by the news.
Apparently ORLANDO BLOOM and JUSTIN BIEBER put on quite the floor
show at the Ibiza restaurant where they had their little spat. Leonardo DiCaprio
was having dinner with Bloom and apparently swatted Bieber away when he
approached their table. That was apparently when Bieber baited Bloom by bringing
up his ex-wife Miranda Kerr. Just about everyone in the place stood up to see what
was going on and when Orlando threw a punch at Bieber, DiCaprio cheered and
everyone else started clapping before the two were separated. As for Miranda,
she’s said to be embarrassed by the whole thing, but denies that she ever got
intimate with Bieber; although it’s rumored he pursued her pretty hard after that
Victoria’s Secret Fashion show after party a couple years back.

TINSELTOWN TATTLER 2…
MICHAEL DOUGLAS has co-starred with a lot of leading ladies and says his
latest onscreen love interest, Diane Keaton, is “Like a muse. She’s so bright, yet
not threatening. She’s got that wonderful laugh and laughs at my jokes, which is
always flattering. She’s very, very charming and attractive.” Douglas adds, “I’ve
been very fortunate with all except for one of all the leading ladies that I’ve
worked with.” However, he wouldn’t say who that one leading lady was.
KATY PERRY is featured on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine and she tells
them she isn't afraid to be a single mom saying, "I don't need a dude. We are living
in the future; we don't need anything. I don't think I'll have to, but we'll see." Katy
went on to say, "I'm not anti-men. I love men. But there is an option if someone
doesn't present himself." However, Katy says that with or without a dude, kids
aren’t in her immediate future as she added, "I want to be doing that in the right
time. And that's not in the next two years, you know? Maybe it's in a five-year
plan, but I need to really be able to focus 100 percent of my attention on it."
Meanwhile, a video of Katy performing on a religious TV network back in 2002
has surfaced. She was still using her given name of Katy Hudson and performing a
song called "Search Me" from her Christian album. (See here)

SHARKNADO 2: THE NEXT ONE was an even bigger hit than the original as
some 3.9 million viewers tuned, up from the 1.4 million that watched the original
last July. It was the SyFy channel’s most-watched original movie and its 531,000
tweets were up from 318,000 for last summer's first Sharknado flick. A third
Sharknado movie has already been announced, which is presumably sub-titled The
One After That.
ANDREW LINCOLN, who plays Rick Grimes on WALKING DEAD, has hinted
that there’ll be some major deaths coming in Season 5. Lincoln said, “It’s one of
the great things…that you have real jeopardy for favorite characters. It won’t be
without its share of death this season.” But, no, he didn’t say who might be going.

widow Dwina and his son RJ, and named after the street Gibb was born on in the
Isle of Man.
KATY PERRY performed last night at a White House dinner honoring the 46th

THE WATERCOOLER…
Colombian grad student Diego Gomez wanted to help other researchers and the
endangered amphibians they study by sharing a research paper he found online.
Gomez posted the paper on a file-sharing site and now the amphibians may have to
save Diego as he’s facing up to eight years in prison for copyright infringement.
Tough copyright laws were introduced as part of Colombia's 2006 free trade
agreement with the US, and even though the author was credited and the work was
already online, the author filed a complaint for violation of economic rights and
related rights.
A father took his 3-and-11-year-old sons to a zoo in Cascavel, Brazil and for some
reason let them climb over a barrier to pet the tigers. The 11-year-old was reaching
in the cage and stroking the animal and apparently giving the tiger pieces of food
when the predictable happened and it tore off his hand. Witnesses say the boy cried
after he was mauled and said that he was going to die and he couldn’t feel his arm.
His three-year-old brother is believed to have witnessed the attack and while the
boy survived, doctors had to partially amputate his arm. Zookeepers say the tiger,
named Hu, is 'one of the sweetest' at the zoo. (See here)
Conroe, Texas’ 20-year-old Jacob Schreiner was pulled over for speeding last
month in his 2006 Mustang GT. While waiting on the deputy to write him up, the
police cruiser’s dash cam video shows a proud Jacob dusting off the rear spoiler of
his car. Unfortunately, Jacob needn’t have bothered as a truck is soon seen on the
video sideswiping his car. The driver of the truck was given two citations for the
accident and said he’d gotten distracted when he spilled a drink in his lap. When a
reporter asked Jacob if he wanted to cry, he said: "Oh, I did…I ain't gonna lie. I
sure did." The one bright spot for Jacob was that the deputy felt so bad for him that
he didn’t write him up. (See dash cam video here – crash is at 3:48)

THE WATERCOOLER 2…
Four rare Dr. Seuss stories are being released on September 9th in a new book
called Horton and the Kwuggerbug and More Lost Stories. The stories haven't been
seen since they appeared in Redbook magazine in the 1950’s. Characters will
include the familiar Horton; Marco, who was the subject of Seuss' first children's
book, and a slightly different Grinch than we’re familiar with.
The gas vs. charcoal crowd can argue all they want, but British chef Sam Bompas
has just won the argument. Sam recently travelled to Syracuse University where
Professor Robert Wysocki and his team customized a bronze furnace to melt rocks
and create an artificial volcano. The furnace produces a 2,700-degree Fahrenheit
lava flow, which lasts 7-9 minutes. That’s more than enough time to cook steaks
on a grill placed above the flow. Chef Bompas says, “I've always been obsessed
with volcanoes and had a dream of being able to cook with lava.” He said the
resulting steak and corn was the best he'd ever eaten. (See here)
Spanish physicist and electrical engineer Manuel Linares has created ice cream that
changes color when you lick it. He calls it Xamaleón and so far he’s keeping the
science behind it a secret until he’s granted a patent. The ice cream starts out blue
and only begins to change color after it has been sprayed with something Linares
calls a "love elixir." Yes, some reports do claim that it has aphrodisiac qualities.
Linares is working on other types of color-changing treats, such as one that
changes from white to pink and another that changes color under the ultraviolet
lights of nightclubs.

SPORTS SHIRT…
In a stunning move that gives them three former Cy Young Award winners,
The Detroit Tigers pulled off a three-way deal with the Seattle Mariners and
Tampa Bay Rays yesterday. The Tigers got David Price from the Rays, while the
Mariners get center fielder Austin Jackson from the Tigers and sent infielder Nick
Franklin to the Rays, who also receive lefty Drew Smyly and a Class A shortstop.
The Oakland Athletics picked up Jon Lester and Jonny Gomes from the Red Sox in
a deal that sends Yoenis Cespedes and a competitive balance draft pick in 2015 to
Boston. No word on if the A’s will go ahead with the planned Cespedes “La
Potencia” T-shirt giveaway that had been scheduled for tomorrow.
Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch ended his holdout and reported to
training camp yesterday, possibly a little lighter in the wallet. The eight-day
holdout cost Lynch nearly $500,000 in team fines, although it’s unclear if the
Seahawks will make him pay up.
Donald Trump has reportedly been chosen to advance to the next round of bidding
for the Buffalo Bills. No word on which other bidders were chosen to advance.
Keyshawn Johnson just sent out wedding invitations in the form of iPad 4s. The
tablets are pre-programmed with all of the information for the guests. They also
include a photo gallery, guestbook, registry and countdown to the big day.
The Milwaukee Bucks have signed free agent guard Jerryd Bayless to a contract.
Bayless played for Memphis and Boston last season, averaging 9.3 points in 72
games. Terms were not disclosed.
Dustin Johnson has announced that he’ll take a leave of absence from golf to seek
help for "personal challenges." No word on how long he’ll be out, but he will miss
the Ryder Cup.

DUH…
Demonstrating the importance of maintaining physical fitness was Omaha’s 23year-old Shantoria Valentine. Shantoria was in good enough shape to walk into a
Wells Fargo Bank branch and hand the teller a note claiming she had a bomb.
While Shantoria was able to lift the $1,200 dollars that was handed to her and run
away on foot, her run quickly turned to a shuffle, then a walk, before she collapsed
from exhaustion just a few blocks away. Police quickly caught up with Shantoria
and it’s doubtful she’ll have enough strength to break out of her jail cell.
Skagway, Alaska’s 50-year-old Carl Timothy Forester has been sentenced to seven
years in jail following a suicide attempt. While that’s usually not a crime, after
Carl placed a shotgun in his mouth, his girlfriend attempted to prevent the suicide.
However, instead of reasoning with him or even using her feminine wiles, she hit
him in the head with the butt of another gun, causing him to involuntarily squeeze
the trigger. Carl somehow lived, but shot his girlfriend in the upper chest,
permanently disfiguring her. Despite her pleas for leniency, Carl was sent away.
Colusa, California’s Rebecca and Jose Molina allegedly kidnapped a 13-year-old
boy. However, it wasn’t a ransom they were after, but an apology. The teenager
was apparently playing in a park when he ran into the Molina’s 6-year-old son and
made him cry. Rebecca allegedly assaulted the teen and then went home and got
her husband and kidnapped the kid. Authorities say the Molinas assaulted the
teenager and forced him to get on his knees and apologize to their son. That’s
when police arrived and took Rebecca and Jose and hauled them off to jail.
Northampton, Massachusetts police went to the home of an unnamed 53-year-old
man to investigate a call about a firearm on the premises. When a man came to the
door, he informed officers that the only "guns" in the house were his biceps and
proceeded to flex, Police did find a water gun at the home and noted the man
appeared to be drunk. Det. Lt. Alan Borowski added, "For 53, he's all right, but he
was probably bigger back in the day."

MO’ DUH…
A Lincoln, Nebraska dentist, ironically named Dr. Randall Toothaker, has pleaded
not guilty to stealing nearly $17,000 worth of precious metals from the Veterans
Affairs Medical Center in Omaha. Dr. Toothaker pleaded not guilty despite a lab
technician seeing him open a locked cabinet where precious metals used in dental
procedures were kept and police officers pulling him over and finding the missing
metals in a bag in his vehicle. Dr. Toothaker’s story, and he’s sticking to it, is that
he didn't know how the metals got into his bag.
Albuquerque’s 30-year-old Freddy Shelby went home, grabbed a Sprite from the
refrigerator, took off his clothes and went to bed. Unfortunately, Freddy didn’t do
this in his own home. When the homeowners returned to find Freddy in their bed,
they called police and he’s now sleeping in jail.
After finishing a 14-hour shift at work, Britain’s Michelle Auty went to a pub with
friends for a few beers. Luckily, Michelle had the common sense to take a taxi
home where, apparently still thirsty, she drank three-quarters of a bottle of gin.
That’s when common sense and Michelle went out the door as she then drove to a
store to by soda. Michelle was spotted in a supermarket parking lot walking
backwards, swaying from side to side and barely able to stand up. Tests found
Michelle to be nearly five times the legal limit and judges said they had no choice
but to send her to prison for 18 weeks due to her “off the Richter Scale” reading.
Ohio County, West Virginia’s 53-year-old Barbara Jean “B.J.” Geardello grabbed
a leash and went for a walk. Unfortunately, B.J. wasn’t walking her dog. Instead,
the purple nightgown-clad B.J. was walking her 56-year-old boyfriend, Robert
Deyell, who was naked and on all fours with his ankles bound and hood over his
head. Of course, this prompted calls to police, who eventually tracked them down
at their apartment. The couple faces possible charges and Lt. Nelson Croft said
they were offended that people were stopping and calling them freaks. Lt. Croft
added, “That was the weirdest day ever. Yep, I hope it the weirdest day ever.”
