FRENCH IV CURRICULUM 2009-2010 COURSE DESCRIPTION French IV enables students to participate in conversations with native and advanced non-native speakers, either in their community or in the school. COURSE OBJECTIVES Journal in French Produce a scrapbook in the target language Create lesson plans for teaching at the elementary school Read and discuss a French novel Write in the present, past, future, and imperfect tenses Speak in the present, past, future, and imperfect tenses Conjugate verbs in the subjunctive tense Discuss cultural and historic differences through film Write short compositions Write poetry in French ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS Why study a foreign language? How has the foreign culture influenced American society and vice versa? What is the relationship between the target language’s vocabulary and English vocabulary? What is the relationship between the target language’s grammar and English grammar? INDIANA STATE STANDARDS-LEVEL IV DESIRED RESULTS Students will be able to: Standard 1 Write and speak in a language other than English. Standard 2 Interpret information in a language other than English. Standard 3 Present information in a language other than English. Standard 4 Develop awareness of other cultures.
