Historical Fiction Scrapbook Project
In this end-of-text project you will present information about the historical time period
of the book as experienced by the main character. It will take the form of a scrapbook,
which you will create as though you are the main character.





Requirements
1. Scrapbook Cover
o The cover should include the title of your text, the author’s name, the main
character’s name, and your name
2. Page One – Journal Entry
o Write a journal entry from the main character’s point of view that introduces
herself/himself and gives a summary of the novel. The entry should include:
 Begin with a self-introduction, including name, age,, character traits,
setting
 Include a brief description of the following: other important characters,
major events, and conclusion
 Include a date that reflects the date the character would have written it.
3. Pages Two and Three – Pictures and Photographs
o Five pictures or photographs should be included on this page (“photos” can
be drawn, cut out of magazines, or be computer generated – all must be
historically appropriate!)
o Your pictures must be accompanied by a 3-5 sentence caption that names
who is in the picture and what is happening.
o They must include (use as a checklist):
 The main character in a scene from the text
 The character’s family and / or friends
 The setting (location and time period) of the story
 Elements of the time period: fashion, transportation, communication, and
common jobs.
 A picture of your choice (appropriate to the text)
4. Page Four – Souvenirs and Mementos
o Draw, create, collect, or find at least six souvenirs that the main character
would have put into the scrapbook. These objects should reflect events in
the text or important aspects of your character. You must include an
explanation (in at least one full sentence) next to each object describing its
significance.
5. Page Five – Frequently Asked Questions
o Write a list of questions you have about the time period/historical event
featured in your book. Include answers to those questions based on research.
You must have your advisor check your research.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION!!






If you should select a character who dies during the course of the text, you MUST
develop a believable way for the scrapbook to still continue.
If your text has more than one main character, you MUST select one.
All writing must be legible and use correct spelling, punctuation, and
capitalization.
All work needs to show care.
Your scrapbooks can be purchased, used, or created – they can be real
scrapbooks, binders decorated to look old, or cardstock / construction paper
bound together.
