JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the administrative, supervisory and investigative work of the City of
Wentzville Public Works Department, Engineering Division. This work includes all subdivision
improvements, commercial developments, and the management of contracted Public Works projects.
This position also insures all public improvements within the city of Wentzville right of way or easements
are constructed to applicable city standards, county and state specifications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 Responsible for the review of plans for subdivision development, commercial development
infrastructure improvements and in-house public works projects including: transportation, water,
wastewater, stormwater, parks or facilities projects.
 Responsible for administrative, supervisory and investigative work in overseeing the inspection of
all subdivision improvements, commercial developments, work within the City of Wentzville right
of way, and all PW projects
 Oversees work of contractors and consultants
 Reviews all civil plans, including record plats, site plans, improvement plans, construction and
private work within the public right of way
 Reviews, inspects and coordinates the storm water management of the city
 Gives technical engineering assistance and advice to various City departments
 Assists in projecting a broad plan of public works improvements
 Participates in the selection of professional design firms for City projects
 Develops and implements construction standards and specifications and engineering design
criteria for City infrastructure
 Provides respectful, professional, positive service in all interactions between co-workers and
internal and external customers
 Maintains a positive and productive environment ensuring compliance with policies, procedures,
goals and objectives of the City, Department, and Division
 Performs a variety of confidential and sensitive assignments
 Selects, trains, supervises and directs the work of employees and consistently applies policies
and procedures in an equitable manner
 Cooperates, assists, and communicates timely, accurately and effectively with all departments,
maintaining a positive environment and positive communications with fellow employees and the
public to achieve mutual goals
 Responsible for processing and submitting payroll in compliance with all city policies, procedures,
state and federal regulations
 Responsible for enhancing employee performance through establishing and communicating clear
expectations and evaluating performance in a fair and professional manner
 Prepares and monitors division budget seeking continuous improvement and maintaining fiscal
responsibility
 Committed to creating a positive learning environment by identifying the needs of individual
employees and developing skills through training, coaching, and counseling
 Develop bid specs, evaluate and write justifications for selection of vendor to be awarded,
generate and approve purchase requisitions, monitor department purchases for compliance to
purchasing policy, approve department purchases, monitor products and services received for
compliance to contract
 Prepares well thought-out and clear reports for the City Administrator, elected officials, or the
public
 Other duties as assigned

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
 Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
 Knowledge of engineering principles including transportation, water, wastewater,and stormwater
systems as well as facility management practices
 Ability to read engineering drawings
 Professional engineer license in the State of Missouri required
 BA/BS with 4 years of progressively responsible engineering experience
 5 years of municipal engineering experience preferred
 Current valid motor vehicle operators license
