Position Title: Department: Supervisor: FLSA Status: Maintenance Worker I Public Works Street Maintenance Crew Chief Non – Exempt Grade: 6 Position ID: STMWKI JOB SUMMARY This position participates in the manual labor of construction, maintenance, and repair of public service facilities and grounds and the operation of motorized equipment. The primary duties of this class are performed in an outdoor environment and may include working in adverse weather conditions, vehicular traffic, and hazards involving the use of power tools and equipment and hazardous chemicals and materials ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Participates in building asphalt surfaces necessary to build, maintain or repair streets Pours and assists in finishing concrete and masonry work Installs, repairs, maintains and replaces storm sewer lines, manholes, culverts, drainage ditches and storm drains; inspect and clear obstructions from storm drains, gutters, and culverts Operates a variety of motorized, power, and hand-powered machines and equipment Assists in the maintenance of traffic control systems including painting and striping City streets and curbs as well as installing City sign posts and signs Plows snow, salts or sands roads, hauls rock, sand dirt, brush, water, fuel, asphalt and equipment as needed Cleans and maintains roads, alleyways, streets, storm sewers, remove graffiti; assist with flood control efforts and cleanup; haul debris and trash Performs preventative maintenance tasks such as making simple adjustments, replacing minor parts, lubricating of equipment, in order to keep equipment in proper operating condition Sets up and takes down traffic warning devices and barricades for traffic control Mows right of ways and around sign post and guard rails with a weed eater or grass whip Responds to snow removal operations and emergency situations on a 24 hour on-call basis, including holidays, weekends and special events as needed Performs rough carpentry work as needed Provides respectful, professional, positive service in all interactions between co-workers and internal and external customers Maintains a positive and productive environment ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, goals and objectives of the City, Department, and Division Other duties as assigned Maintenance Worker I-Street STMWKI March 2012 Page 1 of 2 SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS Basic knowledge of tools, equipment, methods, and materials used in public service construction High School or GED preferred Current and valid Missouri driver’s license Class B CDL with air brake endorsement required or the ability to obtain within 120 days. Must have passed written examination prior to date of hire. Strong ability to demonstrate technical aptitude and learn more technical and difficult operations CPR/First Aid preferred. Understand simple road maps. Move heavy objects (80 pounds or more) short distances.
