Position Title: Department: Supervisor: FLSA Status: Water Department Supervisor Public Works Water / Wastewater Superintendent Non – Exempt Grade: 13 Position ID: WTRSPV JOB SUMMARY This position provides leadership for the operation, maintenance, repair, installation and minor construction of the city’s water distribution and wastewater collection systems. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Selects, trains, supervises and directs the work of employees and consistently applies policies and procedures in a equitable manner Assists in new water main and sewer main installations Directs and implements an annual water and sewer maintenance program, and trains utility crews for safety and repairs Oversees the work of meter readers, as well as repair and installation of meters Acts as liaison for water issues to other entities and public Oversees backflow prevention program Establishes priorities for emergency and scheduled repairs Oversees Missouri One Call program and staff Oversees compliance with DNR/EPA regulations Reviews water and wastewater utilities on new construction drawings. Verifies their locations and assists GIS Coordinator in adding them to City maps Reviews City maps of water and wastewater field verifies location and corrects maps, if needed Prepares and monitors division budget seeking continuous improvement and maintaining fiscal responsibility Plans and schedules community service events Monitors water towers and booster stations adjusting pumps and set points as needed Maintains equipment and supply inventory; maintains records relating to receipt and issuance of materials or equipment; prepares purchase and supply requisitions Develop bid specs, evaluate and write justifications for selection of vendor to be awarded, generate and approve purchase requisition, monitor department purchases for compliance to purchasing policy, approve department purchase, monitor products and services received for compliance to contract Cooperates, assists, and communicates timely, accurately and effectively with all departments, maintaining a positive environment and positive communications with fellow employees and the public to achieve mutual goals Responsible for processing and submitting payroll in compliance with all city policies, procedures, state and federal regulations Responsible for enhancing employee performance through establishing and communicating clear expectations and evaluating performance in a fair and professional manner Committed to creating a positive learning environment by identifying the needs of individual employees and developing skills thought training, coaching and counseling Provide respectful, professional, positive service in all interactions between co-workers and internal and external customers Maintain a positive and productive environment ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, goals and objectives of the City, Department, and Division Document1 March 2012 Page 1 of 3 Other duties as assigned Document1 March 2012 Page 2 of 3 SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS High School or GED preferred Knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to learn multiple software packages quickly (Incode and others) Drafting or mechanical drawing experience 5+ years of public utilities maintenance experience 5+ years supervisory experience Missouri DNR Water Certification “B” Missouri State approved Backflow Protection Assembly Tester Certification Current Class B CDL or the ability to obtain within 60 days.
