Announcements –
Collegiate Leadership Jacksonville is now recruiting; Dr. Daniel previously nominated, graduate research
student, Kelly Turner. Kelly went last summer and said it was a life changing experience. Dr. Daniel feels
it is a wonderful experience for the advanced undergraduate or graduate student to get connected to
community resources, understand issues in the urban community, and to view themselves as emerging
leaders that can take responsibilities. Dr. Daniel will forward the nomination form to the Department
chairs.
Lois Dellar is the new COEHS chairperson for our USPS staff. The first USPS staff meeting will be on
February 5 from 9:00 – 10:30am.
Dr. Lupi is still waiting for Dr. Waldrup to get back to her regarding a 20 hour per week OPS person to
rotate the departments.
Please let Dr. Lupi know if your faculty would be willing to do a poster session to share their research
with COEHS and the UNF community.
At this time, COEHS cannot fund standing display cases for departments. Small display cases that attach
to the wall may be affordable.
In preparation of the 2013 COEHS Scholar Convocation, Dr. Lupi shared a schedule to help department
chairs prepare. This will be the 4th annual COEHS Scholar Convocation. The scholar convocation will be
for graduates for the academic year, not exclusive to spring 2013 semester.
Dr. Ouyang’s visiting scholar, Dr. Paik arrived on January 14; she will be here for one year.
Drs. Cornett, Johnson, and Poppell have been meeting systematically with representatives from each of
the districts. This is the beginning stages for building cohort based school leadership groups within
various districts. The group would also like to meet with Superintendent Van Zant from Clay County.
Faculty/Staff Highlights – Dr. Lupi is working on a procedure for profiling a faculty or staff member
monthly in the COEHS newsletter. More to come at future CLT meetings.
Department Bylaws – Jennifer Kane
Dr. Kane addressed the current status of the department bylaws. Dr. Daniel will request clarification
from Dr. Workman and or Dr. Newton Jackson.
Dealing with Difficult Students – Larry Daniel
The CLT discussed procedures for dealing with difficult students who have been subject to disciplinary
conduct or in cases where the university police have been involved. It was decided that each case will
be handled based on its own specifics.
The semester is off to a good start. Dr. Kemppainen shared that spring enrollment currently is at 95%.
Meeting adjourned at 11:45.
