College Leadership Team Minutes April 24, 2013 Present – Marsha Lupi, Claribel Torres, Linda Sciarratta, Cathy O’Farrell, Karen Patterson, Jeff Cornett, Terry Cavanaugh, John Kemppainen, John Ouyang, John White Call to order – The meeting was called to order at 9:30am. Minutes – The minutes were approved with minor revisions. Announcements – With permission, Joe Lynch can move old O drive items into an archived area but only items from faculty/staff who are not at the university anymore. Dr. Lupi will formalize with Joe and send something out to faculty. Current faculty and staff who have items on the O drive would have to decide what they would like to keep or toss; Joe cannot touch these items. Spring 2013 student award convocation and ceremony Dr. Lupi recently sent an announcement to all the presenters and requested they meet fifteen minutes prior to the ceremony. Dr. Lupi also asked presenters to say a few words to each of their award recipients but to please keep comments brief. The Christine Dahnke Conversation is today @ 11:30. Christine is from Duval County and her area is TESOL and World Languages. Dr. Cornett’s STEM meeting is on May 1 @ 2:30. Dr. Kemppainen was at the advisory board meeting for the teacher’s academy in St. Augustine. The academy is excited about the start of the dual enrollment class. They are looking forward to Brian Zoellner contacting them so they can prepare over the summer. Dr. Kemppainen will return to the teacher’s academy to assist students in applying for admissions to UNF as dual enrolled students. FDOE Site Visit – (LD) The Florida Department of Education site visit will be November 17 – 19, 2013. In preparation of the visit, the dean’s office will be looking at three major tasks for faculty - Syllabi that are correctly formatted with the correct information, updated faculty vita, and work samples from students. As much as possible, everything has to be submitted electronically. FTCE Testing Available at UNF (JK) UNF will become a Pearson testing site in May. Part-time Faculty Salary/Requests (ML) Dr. Lupi reminded chairs to please address part time faculty salary changes and/or requests to Linda Sciarratta. Parttime faculty who have taught eight consecutive semesters receive a small salary increase; please keep track of faculty who have been teaching consecutively each semester. Summer 2013 - graduate assistants can work no more than 15 hours per week. Since tuition has gone up and no tuition waivers are in the budget, we have less money to support graduate assistants. Tuition waivers have been reduced to one course during the summer. Next year graduate students will only be able to take five courses total during fall, spring, and summer on a tuition waiver. New Hires will start at $13.00; returning graduate assistants will continue at $15.00. Sending out Information items to COEHS faculty and staff (ML) Chairs should encourage faculty to send information items directly to COEHS Faculty and/or staff. In most cases, information items do not need to filter through the dean’s office beforehand. AACTE Washington Week (LD) Day on the Hill, June 19 and June 20, 2013. Chairs, you are welcome to nominate faculty from your departments. In the past, COEHS typically has a delegation of three to five people attend the Day on the Hill portion of AACTE. Use of Graduate Assistant Positions (LD) The leadership team discussed graduate assistant funding, positions, and the potential challenges moving forward into 2013-2014. Further discussion is needed and Dr. Daniel will schedule to meet with the provost and other college deans. Report on Recruiting Efforts (LD) The chairs submitted and discussed their recruitment material/activity needs; the deadline to encumber recruitment items is May 20. Dr. Daniel requested departments to identify recruitment needs earlier in the year so greater impacts can be made. It was also suggested to recruit centrally – move efforts through the dean’s office and/or advising. Also, reserve travel funds for the interpreting program and the advising office. Library Privileges for International Faculty and Affiliated Groups (LD) Dr. Daniel has been working with Dr. Hallblade, and will continue to work with her identifying groups who need library privileges for electronic resources. 2013-2014 Budget and Faculty Position Availability (LD) Dr. Daniel shared that there has been no feedback to date on the non-recurring requests. Permission has been granted to move forward with advertising for the three tenure track positions that were submitted. Departments can move forward with visitor commitments that have been approved. The five additional non-recurring visitor positions will hopefully be approved soon. Proposals for New Programs (LD) The deadline to submit is September 1 with the permission to plan process. Dr. Patterson and Dr. Daniel have progress on the BA degree in Education and Human Services with concentrations. EDIE has worked out a diversity concentration and also a leadership concentration. This degree would be a true honest option for undergraduates. This may also serve a purpose to students trying to get their admission materials together to enter a certification program. EDIE will have something to put forward by the September 1 deadline. Within the next year, Dr. Kemppainen would like to see an Adult Learning program or Training and Development program move forward. Meeting adjourned at 11:30.
