Barbara Jordan Senior Legacy Award 2015 Application McCombs School of Business The University of Texas at Austin About the Award The Barbara Jordan Senior Legacy Award seeks to identify two outstanding seniors who have been vital in leaving a legacy at the McCombs School of Business. Named after the first African-American woman from the Deep South to be elected to the U.S. Congress, the award honors students who have shown similar perseverance in their own leadership. A committee of students evaluates all applicants on the impact they have made as student leaders, mentors, and in pursuit of their unique goals. Past recipients have moved on to work for top consulting and investment banking firms, became founders of high-demand technology start-ups, and made an impact in local nonprofit organizations. This award is not only meant to reward current achievements, but also to motivate its recipients to continue growing their legacy in the future. Application Process 1. Applicants must fill out their basic information and answer all three essay questions. Essay responses are limited to two total pages, single-spaced, 12-pt. font, Times New Roman. 2. Applicants must send their current resume and this application to bjgmawards2015@gmail.com by Friday, March 27th at 11:59 p.m. a. Note that applicants should inform their character references that a member of the BJGM Committee will contact them. 3. Interview times will be released on Monday, March 30th and interviews will be held on Monday, April 6th. Final decisions will be released by April 10th. a. Applicants should be aware that an official transcript is required at the interview. 4. Winners will be invited to a brunch with deans from the McCombs School of Business in April and honored at the McCombs Honors Convocation Friday, April 17th.
