Role Purpose To carry out and manage operational and environmental monitoring with respect to composting operations in an efficient and safe manner in compliance with the company’s duty of care, Permit requirements and any other Environmental legislation Page: 1 of 5 To ensure that appropriate systems and processes are maintained in an efficient manner to allow the continued delivery of green waste from other facilities and customers. Summary of Tasks 1) Identify, organise and prioritise workload and ensure work is completed to FCC Environment standard. 2) Demonstrate a polite and courteous manner to the public at all times, thereby providing an exemplary customer service to the Environment Agency, Council members and the public. 3) Demonstrate good communication skills towards the Operations manager, Site Attendants, local Authorities, Environment Agency and the Public. 4) To assist the Operations Manager in delivering, controlling and co-ordinating the safe and efficient operation of the compost facility in accordance with management instructions, all health & safety Working Procedures and Legislative Requirements, Planning Permissions, Waste Permits, E-Module Training, Safety Alerts and Toolbox talks at all times. 5) To review / update, and conversant with the relevant details of the Waste Management Licence, Working Plan, Risk Assessments, COSHH Assessments, Emergency Procedures and other relevant health, safety & environmental documents. 6) Ensure all accidents, near-misses or dangerous situations are recorded and reported to your Operations manager. 7) To promote and enforce the need to maximise recycling levels across all facilities 8) Ensure all legislative paperwork, is completed properly. 9) Generation of clear and factual information relating to all necessary paperwork on behalf of FCC Environment and regulatory bodies. Page: 2 of 5 10) To ensure that all site personnel are wearing the correct PPE at all times. 11) Attend and participate in monthly meetings regarding achieved recycling rates and other site issues. 12) Formally record and report any breach of rules, act of dishonesty, malpractice or corruption by any member of the public, visitor to the site, or member of staff to the Operations manager. 13) Liaise with and carry out any reasonable and safe duties assigned to you by your Operations manager. Key Responsibilities • To undertake all environmental monitoring with respect to composting, in accordance with an approved work schedule, reflecting the company’s Health and Safety requirements, permit and any other environmental requirements. • Ensure the site is maintained in a clean and litter free state. • Manage all monitoring data. Validate laboratory analysis data and liaise with laboratory to ensure effective performance of the contract. • To support the operations manager with the production of environmental reports for the regulator to the requirements and timescales of the site permits. • Ensure breaches of assessment, control and trigger levels are reported in a timely manner. • Monitor and where necessary maintain environmental control systems. Page: 3 of 5 • Maintain company equipment ensuring all is calibrated to manufacturer specifications. • Maintain all environmental and composting infrastructure, ensuring it is fit for purpose. • Have input into special projects as required, such as Pas 100 testing, Bio Aerosol management and site investigations. • Support regional and site staff in the development of remedial strategies based upon issues indicated by monitoring programmes. • Undertake all reporting in accordance with the group standards and permit requirements. • Continually seek improvements to environmental compliance. • Awareness of Emergency procedure. • Conduct and report site environmental inspections. • Support Regional and Site Technical/Operations Manager with any other work.
