JOB SUMMARY
Monitors, receives and transmits radio, telephone, and computer messages on multiple public safety
communications channels concerning crime and other emergencies
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 Monitors and logs all transmissions of central communications center and mobile units Monitors
radio traffic for FCC compliance
 Responds to citizens calls by determining the nature of the call
 Logs officers on and off duty
 Provides dispatch services for multiple agencies
 Maintains fuel and mileage logs
 Ensures tapes are operational at all times
 Answers all PBX calls and route accordingly
 Serves as liaison with other agencies on outstanding “wants and warrants” and disposition of
same
 Video monitor watch (Jail)
 Completes clerical duties as assigned (“expedite” orders and repossessed vehicles, supplies,
shredding information, run criminal history, derelict vehicles)
 Enters all towed vehicles, maintains tow log for vehicle releases and cancels when released or
after 90 days from date of entry
 Validates all warrants/wanted/guns/vehicles/stolen license plates/calls all victims or reporting
parties as designated each month on validation list from Rejis/sends out letters to those that are
not reachable by phone/maintains the status in ITI reports/contacts the detective bureau to
confirm on these entries and maintains a database to house old records
 Enters/validates warrants, vehicles, stolen items (MULES protocol within 72 hours)
 Answers all 911 calls, determine jurisdiction and route appropriately
 Provides receptionist duties as required (Sally port entrance monitor, main lobby)
 Monitors multiple remote cameras (4-6 offsite locations)
 Manages access to building
 Monitors ETS system
 Monitors 3SI Security System
 Monitors school panic alarm system using phone and computer
 Deals directly with the demands of a very rapidly growing mental health epidemic, including the
demands of suicidal callers, high stress domestic violence in progress calls and juvenile problems
 Uses WIND (Rev911) call system to alert public to hazardous or safety conditions such as road
closures and missing juveniles
 Attends training
 Trains new dispatchers
 Acts as liaison for after hours call-outs for city workers (must update call-outs lists frequently)
 Acts as liaison for call-outs for the railroad and cell phone companies to ping phones in
emergencies/utilities/etc.
 Provide respectful, professional, positive service in all interactions between co-workers and
internal and external customers
 Other duties as assigned

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
 High School or GED
 Course work in Criminal Justice preferred
 Mature, seasoned individual
 Ability to multi-task
 REJIS within 6 months
 Ability to quickly learn multiple software packages
 16 hours continuing education each year
 Data entry skills (computer skills)
 Complete background investigation
 Good customer service skills (in person, phone, email)
