CLASS TITLE: COMPUTER OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR - SES
ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)
This is work supervising Computer Operators on one or more shifts. The primary duty of the
employee(s) in the position(s) allocated to this class is to spend the majority of time communicating
with, motivating, training and evaluating employees, planning and directing their work; and having the
authority to hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward or discipline
subordinate employees or to effectively recommend such actions.

Motivates employees to improve the quality and quantity of work performed.
Plans work loads, work flows, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with employees.
Evaluates employees through establishing evaluation criteria and responsibilities and meeting
regularly with employees to ensure the established criteria are met.
Trains employees in methods for performing an effective and efficient job.
Communicates on a regular basis with employees both individually and in staff meetings.
Directs the work of employees to ensure maximum utility of time and resources.
Maintains operating procedures for processing data in accordance with a prescribed schedule.
Assigns and schedules personnel and equipment for efficient utilization.
Ensures that data processing equipment is maintained in good operating condition and
maintains an efficient flow of work within the computer center.
Organizes and establishes operating controls and reports from subordinate personnel to ensure
timely and correct processing of data as scheduled.
Responsible for the physical security of the computer area and the activation of data processing
disaster plans.
Maintains an adequate inventory of data processing supplies and required forms.
Responsible for the environmental control of the computer operations area.
Performs related work as required.

Knowledge of terminology and procedures in the area of data processing.
Skill in operating a variety of data processing equipment.
Ability to supervise people.
Ability to diagnose computer system problems.
Ability to detect data processing equipment malfunctions.
Ability to evaluate production and quality control.
Ability to analyze and interpret technical data processing data.
Ability to make timely and accurate decisions during normal operating conditions and critical
situations.
Ability to read and understand technical data processing publications.
Ability to determine work priorities, assign work and ensure proper completion of work
assignments.
Ability to communicate technical data processing information effectively.
Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
