Course Description:
This class is a fun and interactive course that is primarily dedicated to teaching young students,
who will be the face of tomorrow, the importance of taking ownership of opportunities that allow
them to be great leaders. While stressing the importance of taking ownership of opportunities is
the main focus, students will be taught basic skills that will enable them to do such. This class is
also meant to serve the students by providing them a way they can learn, establish, and build

take ownership of their today.
Teaching Procedures:
The format of this class is about an equal amount between interactive learning such as
discussion, partner activities, and lecture style learning in an effort to prepare students and show
students a glimpse of college style instruction in hopes to aid them in their preparation for
college.
Course Outline:
This course will cover roughly 9 main concepts. Every six weeks will be dedicated to one or two
concepts that will be introduced at the beginning of each new six weeks. During the last week of
each six weeks, students will get the opportunity to watch a movie in class that is designed to
recap and show the learned class concepts in everyday life situations , through a movie. The

Attendance & Late Work:
Teen Leadership is a hands-on, lecture, and discussion based class, therefore attendance is
necessary. If the student is absent, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to get the make-up work
(from moodle also known as Netschool) on the DAY you return to class or are absent. Students
who have missed school due to being sick, family circumstances, or any other excused absence
will not have their work penalized with a late grade. Late work will follow the district grading
policies:


1 day late= -15 points
2 days late= -30 points
Students will have until the last three days of the six weeks grading period to turn in the work for
a maximum grade of a 70. This 70 is assuming the student did not miss any questions and turned
in the assignment in perfect conditions that usually would award a 100 if they turned it in on
time.
Course Grades:
Grades will be determined by academic assessment and point activities. Written work, class
discussions, quizzes will make up daily/ formative grade. Our formative grades for teen
leadership will reflect largely on effort and ability to follow instruction.
Large projects, oral presentations, written papers, and tests, will count as major/ summative
grades, or as a “test” grade. It is the policy of Northwest ISD not to discriminate on the basis of
race, color, national origin, sex or disability in its vocational programs, services, or activities as
required by
Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended;
Titles IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972; Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of
1973; as amended; and
Title II of the American with Disabilities Act.
