1. Summary of Typhoon MATSA
At 18:00 on August 5, 2005, the center of Typhoon MATSA, with 250 km radius,
was located at 260 kilometers north-north-east from Taipei City, moving
north-north-west at a speed of 14 kilometers per hour. The warning land areas
include Keelung, Taipei, and Taoyuan about the strong gust and heavy rainfall.
The warning sea area includes north, and northeast part of Taiwan. All the fishing
operation in north of Taiwan Strait should take serious precautions.
2. Emergency Response and Countermeasures
(1) Activation of Emergency Response Centers in Counties / Cities
1. First Degree: Keelung City, Taipei City, Taipei Country, Taoyuan
Country, Hsinchu Country, Mioli Country, Keelung harbor, Hualian
harbor, Taichung harbor.
2. Third Degree: Taichung Country, Hualian Country, Chiayi City, Nanto
Country, Chiayi Country.
(2) Casualty
By 13:00, August 5, 2 deceased in Miaoli country Nanjuan village.
(3) Electricity Supply (Source:Ministry of Economic Affairs）
By 16:00 pm, August 5, 54,716 households of Taiwan Power had ever been
under outage in total. 47,995 households had been restored, but 6,721
households are still in the blackout.
(4) Tap Water Supply(Source:Ministry of Economic Affairs）
By 16:00 pm, August 5, 131,829 households had ever been under outage in total.
18,000 households had been restored, but 113,829 households are still in the
blackout.
