The Urban Metabolism of Cement and Gravel in Taipei and New Taipei City Kunag-Ly Cheng, Chih-Yu Chang, Pi-cheng Chen, Yi-Shin Wang Graduate Institute of Environmental Engineering, National Taiwan University Concrete(cement and gravel) is a high resource consumption and environmental impact material. There is about third of Taiwanese people living in Taipei and New Taipei City which induces a huge structure demand(building and infrastructure). Taipei and New Taipei City extract a massive construction resource from other cities and produces much construction waste. In additional, the two cities have a high vacant rate. For urban sustainable development, it should figure out the urban metabolism of cement and gravel. Thus, it's helpful to provide the advice of concrete resource plan and management. In the result, the main consumption prat is buildings construction. Taipei and New Taipei City stock 220 million tons cement and gravel during 2004~2013 and generated 447 tons concrete waste every year. It should study forward about the concrete waste flows(sinks), construction material, construction method and governance.
