3C’s Monday Memo January 4, 2016 Math: Monday was a review day of concepts learned to date. After I correct the review sheets, I will be sending home in the binder. Please keep so you can see what your child needs more work on. Tuesday, we will begin the geometry unit. Most students find this easier than previous units and a nice break. However, there is new vocabulary that some students may require extra practice with at home. Students can get extra practice on SOL teacher under math and geometry. This site is available on the LIES web page. 2 students have reached 100% math fact fluency on REFLEX! I have written your student’s progress % in the planner today. I am recommending some students to use the site every night at home. Memorizing math facts is very important in 3rd grade. REFLEX is available at home, 7 days a week. Science: We will begin the ancient Rome unit this week. The students are noticing there are many similarities to ancient Greece! Reading: Next week will be the next round of DRA reading leveling tests. Having your child read a couple of pages aloud to you each night will help them prepare for the oral section. In groups, we will be practicing the various questions that asked in the DRA tests together and talking about what their answers should include or look like. Please make sure your child is carefully reading Raz Kids and looking for the answers. The scores have been low. It is a good idea to go over the missed questions one on one to help prepare for the SOL test. I will be writing the reading benchmark test score in the planners. Many need to see improvement in that area. Word Study First week of words. Choice on Tuesday and Thursday. Test on January 15th. Writer’s Workshop: We will be working on a New Year’s project along with our daily language sheet. Announcements: Please make sure your child has a warm jacket and mittens on these colder days. Many students were very chilly at recess today. Thanks for working with me to make sure the students have nutritional snacks. Thanks for signing the planner daily and helping with homework as well! If you have read this memo, print out a copy and sign for your child. He/she will receive an extra sticker for good behavior chart!! Due Tuesday morning. Have a great week!
