3C’s Monday Memo

Math :

This week, students will begin the unit of fractions. This is a great time to bake and talk about how 4 fourths = 1 cup and so on.

5 students have reached 100% math fact fluency on REFLEX! I have written your student’s progress % in the planner today. I am recommending some students to use the site every night at home.

Memorizing math facts is very important in

3rd grade. REFLEX is available at home, 7 days a week.

Social Studies: This week we will continue the earth resources unit - resource nenewal, renewable, and nonrenewable. The test will be on Friday. Students will be bringing home their notebooks nightly to review notes.

Reading:

We will work on the different levels of questioning and how to figure out the answers: right there, search and gather, and in your mind. Next week, our focus will be biographies.

Please make sure your child is carefully reading Raz Kids and looking for the answers.. It is a good idea to go over the missed questions one on one to help prepare for the SOL test. There is now a recording log to fill out and a parent signature. Please have your child show you the 1 st

score – not after they have checked missed questions and fixed.

.

Word Study

1st week of words. Choice on Tuesday and

Thursday. Test on Friday, February 19th. No new choose list yet so the students may choose whatever they would like to do from the previous list.

Writer’s Workshop:

This week we will begin learning about writing biographies and what type of information is usually included. All students should have a famous person chosen by the end of library on Tuesday. We will be reading the books and articles in class and taking notes this week. A parent letter will come home

Monday night with specifics. Feel free to contact me with any questions. This person will be the one they use for the Wax Museum where your child will create a short speech and dress as that individual.

Announcements:

SEARCH:

District Referrals - Students with qualifying test scores on the CogAT and/or NNAT will receive a district referral via US mail in mid-February. With parent permission (via a signed referral form returned to school SEARCH teacher), these students will be evaluated for gifted services.

Parent Referrals - Parents of students who did not receive a district referral letter, but who wish to have their children evaluated for gifted services, may submit a parent referral form to their child's SEARCH teacher from February 16 – March 4, 2016.

Referral forms submitted after March 4, 2016 will be processed next school year.

PE is on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Please have your child wear gym shoes on those days. We are having problems with the changing of shoes.

If you have read this memo, print out a copy and sign for your child. He/she will receive an extra sticker for good behavior chart!! Due Tuesday morning.

Have a great week! Mrs. Feddersen
