3C’s Monday Memo January 11, 2016 Math: We will complete the geometry unit. Please use notes and worksheets to help your child prepare for the test. Test will be on Friday online during computer lab. I will begin to do some tests online to prepare for SOL tests. Students can get extra practice on SOL teacher under math then choose from shapes, lines/angles, & congruent. This site is available on the LIES web page. 3 students have reached 100% math fact fluency on REFLEX! I have written your student’s progress % in the planner today. I am recommending some students to use the site every night at home. Memorizing math facts is very important in 3rd grade. REFLEX is available at home, 7 days a week. Social Studies: We will complete the ancient Rome unit this week. The students are noticing there are many similarities to ancient Greece! The quiz for the unit will be on Tuesday. On Wednesday, we will begin the final ancient civilization, Mali. Reading: Monday we will read and discuss our Scholastic News. Tuesday, I will begin administering DRA reading level tests. During this week, students will be working on an ancient Rome poster when not working on the test. Please make sure your child is carefully reading Raz Kids and looking for the answers. The scores have been low. It is a good idea to go over the missed questions one on one to help prepare for the SOL test. I will be writing the reading benchmark test score in the planners. Many need to see improvement in that area. Word Study Second week of words. Choice on Tuesday and practice test on Thursday. Test on January 15th. Writer’s Workshop: We will be working on a class newspaper to practice all of the writing skills we have been working on. Please discuss skills that your child misses on Daily Language sheets to help them apply it to their own writing. Announcements: Please make sure your child has a warm jacket and mittens on these colder days. Thanks for working with me to make sure the students have nutritional snacks. Thanks for signing the planner daily and helping with homework as well! If you have read this memo, print out a copy and sign for your child. He/she will receive an extra sticker for good behavior chart!! Due Tuesday morning. Have a great week! Mrs. Feddersen Karen.Feddersen@lcps.org
