3C’s Monday Memo September 21, 2015 . Math: We will continue the Place Value Unit this week which will include quizzes. This week the focus will be comparing and rounding numbers. Notes to review will be in the math notebook, and you can ask your child to bring it home every day. To help your child practice, say numbers up to the millions and have him/her write the number in both standard, then expanded form. Try to include some zeroes as these are tricky. We will also begin comparing with greater than, less than, and equal to. Memorizing math facts is very important in 3rd grade. REFLEX is available at home, 7 days a week. Social Studies: Our current unit is government. Part of this unit will focus on our first semester One to the World and Project Based Learning at the 3rd grade level. We will continue to work on the knowledge for the government test. Also groups will be recording their videos and then the election will be held Thursday. Announcement of the winner will be Friday. The second most votes will be the SCA substitute. Posters are finished and up! Reading: This week we will be meeting in guided reading groups. Our focus will be predictions and cause/effect. In addition, we will hopefully begin Scholastic News if they arrive! Most students are making great progress on their reading logs. Thanks for your help at home. Word Study This week is choice on Tuesday and practice test on Thursday. The test on Friday, September 23rd. If you have time, sorting nightly helps students that need extra practice. Writer’s Workshop: We will be working on learning the steps good writers do, editing practice, and choosing one of the “small moment” pieces from last week to publish. In addition, we have been working in our cursive handwriting books. Star Students: Sidney and Matthew!!! We look forward to them sharing their posters and any extra pictures of favorite memories they would like to share. Announcements: One of the ways I love to get to know my students is by watching what they do outside of school. If I can work it into my schedule, I would like to come to your child’s game, recital, etc. If you send me the schedule for the event, I will try to work it into mine. Thanks for working with me to make sure the students have nutritional snacks. Thanks for signing the planner daily and helping with homework as well! If you have read this memo, print out a copy and sign for your child. He/she will receive an extra sticker for good behavior chart!! Due Tuesday morning. Have a great week!
