Office of the President
Minutes of the College Council Meeting of September 20, 2004
Present: Ms. Caldwell, Dr. Caldwell, Dr. Fallo, Mr. Hanson, Ms. Pickens, Ms. Smith, Dr. Schwartz,
and Ms. Stewart.
1. The Comprehensive Master Plan is completed and will be reviewed by Cabinet and once
revised, will be printed and presented to the Board for approval in October 2004. It was
reported that the Planning & Budgeting Committee was given a copy of each chapter and had
an opportunity to give feedback. The Planning cycle is based on Program review.
2. It was reported that the Special Project Temporary Administrator positions are usually tied to
grants and are given contracts for a definite period, which is usually one year. The original
intent for casual employees was for temporary assignments, not for long term as they are used
now. Both types of employees can purchase health benefits, however restrictions and rules
apply. Special Project Temporary Administrators earn vacation pay.
3. Dr. Schwartz is forming a committee to implement Student Learning Outcomes. A letter has
been drafted that will go out to each division asking for a core group of people to be involved.
Bill Scroggins will give a presentation here on November 5th. The Academic Senate’s role will
be to develop philosophy. Dr. Caldwell and Dr. Schwartz will each do their part and integrate
into one timeline for presentation to President Fallo. We will need to show progress by next
Accreditation in 2008.
4. Our mid-term Accreditation report is due March 15th. It will have to be ready for review by the
end of this semester.
5. We will meet for Board Policy review October 11th from 1-3:00 p.m. in Admin 127.
6. ECCE will make four new appointments to the Insurance Benefits Committee.
7. It was reported that viruses brought in by outside equipment and disks are causing our e-mail
problems. President Fallo would like to know what other Districts are doing about the virus
problem.
8. Once Ann Collette updates the Vice President of Academic Affairs job description it can be put
into draft form for review.
