FINAL El Camino College Office of the President Minutes of the College Council Meeting of November 24, 2003 Present: Dr. Fallo, Dr. Caldwell, Mr. Hanson, Dr. Hata, Ms. Pickens, Ms. Caldwell, Ms. Ely, Mr. Samimi, Dr. Simon, and Ms. Stewart. 1. Dr. Caldwell attended the Governor’s inauguration and the CalSac reception. 2. Arvid Spor has been meeting with various divisions on planning. It appears that we will meet our deadlines. 3. Due to the fact that we have cut a lot of sections, Dr. Hata and President Fallo will discuss moving classes from the college hour for the fall semester. 4. The AFT is reopening December 4th and December 11th. 5. California College League of California Annual Conference a. For the past two years El Camino College Distinguished Alumni were recognized at the conference. Last year it was George Nakano and this year it was Cliff Miedl. Cliff gave a very inspirational speech and we are going to ask him to be our commencement speaker next year. b. There were two presentations on the new State finance model. c. Equalization will become an important issue. There is a lot of support for implementation. 6. Board policy 1600: Full Inclusion of People with Disabilities was pulled from the agenda and was sent back to the 508 Task Force for review. Lucinda Aborn reported that the changes made to the policy drastically changed the intent of the policy. Dr. Caldwell will follow-up. 7. Janet Clarke’s index of Board policies was distributed for review and discussion at the next College Council meeting. 8. Bill Mulrooney has asked for a SB338 (concurrent enrollment) Task Force. The Task Force will recommend procedures. 9. Goals a. b. c. d. e. f.
