FINAL El Camino College Office of the President Minutes of the College Council Meeting of November 1, 2004 Present: Dr. Fallo, Dr. Caldwell, Mr. Hanson, Mr. Gomez, Mr. Middleton, Ms. Pickens, Ms. Smith, Dr. Schwartz, Dr. Simon, and Ms. Stewart. 1. Policy 4228 – Independent Study will be distributed and discussed at the next meeting. 2. College Council Evaluation a. Committee listing will be reviewed to determine which ones report to College Council b. College Council usually only receives recommendations from the Academic Senate. The Planning and Budgeting Committee makes its recommendations directly to the President. c. College Council works as a pressure release valve for campus topics as they come up. College Council also reviews policies, has changed board actions and gives input on budget issues. d. There was a suggestion to put our mission statement on the College Council minutes/agenda. e. Some members feel that most people don’t know that College Council exists and/or what we do. f. The committee does agree that College Council is valuable but lines of communication need to be more open in both directions. It was also noted that explanations for decisions should be given. g. College Council will discuss the possibility of changing its self-evaluation. h. College Council will discuss goals for the coming year and also whether it wants to change its structure at the next meeting. 3. As of January 1, 2005 we will no longer be utilizing the Infonet. We will only use the El Camino College Portal. 4. President Fallo reported that overcap FTES reported in 2006 would be applied to 2006 salary increases.
