Explanatory notes 1 All workplace practices must meet any applicable and recognised codes of practice, and documented workplace health, safety, and environmental procedures for personal, product, workplace health, safety, and environmental matters, and the obligations required under current law including the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Resource Management Act 1991, and their subsequent amendments. 2 Workplace practices refer to the documented procedures for the machine and/or workplace. 3 Candidates undertaking assessment against this unit standard must provide evidence of normal colour vision. Evidence requirements 1.1 Plates are confirmed as correct for the job before proceeding to secure in the press. 1.2 Plates are positioned and secured on the press to meet the requirements of the press and job specifications. 1.3 Faults found on plates are recognised and reported in accordance with workplace practices. Range may include but is not limited to – incorrect exposure or development, image defects, poor contact, incorrect image positioning, missing registration mark, bleeds (trapping, keyline). Outcome 2 Pre-set the inking system. Evidence requirements 2.1 Inking system on the press being operated is explained in terms of its operation. 2.2 Ink is added to the duct in accordance with workplace practices ensuring colour consistency of job is achieved. 2.3 Ink delivery system is set and rollers are inked up to meet the requirements of the image on the plate. Range duct, ink flow, duct roller sweep. Outcome 3 Carry out other make ready tasks. Evidence requirements 3.1 Web tensions and draw (nip) rollers are set to meet the requirements of the job specifications. 3.2 Web break detectors are checked for cleanliness and set or turned on. 3.3 Counter and delivery systems are checked to ensure that the requirements of the job specifications are met. 3.4 End finishing units are set to meet the requirements of the job specifications. 3.5 Drying system is set and activated in accordance with workplace practices. Evidence requirements 4.1 Print is taken and checked against job specifications and available sample or proof. 4.2 Press is fine tuned to ensure that the required production standard is achieved. Range unwind, pressures, inking, tensions, register, delivery, diecutting. 4.3 Print is passed for production run and approval to run obtained in accordance with workplace procedures. 4.4 Counters are set ready for start of run.
