Explanatory notes 1 All workplace practices must meet any applicable and recognised codes of practice, and documented workplace health, safety, and environmental procedures for personal, product, workplace health, safety, and environmental matters, and the obligations required under current law including the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Resource Management Act 1991, and their subsequent amendments. 2 Workplace practices refer to the documented procedures for the machine and/or workplace. 3 Jobs undertaken for this unit standard must include work for a minimum sheet size of A3 and must include halftones. 4 Candidates undertaking this unit standard must provide evidence of normal colour vision. Range single sheet feeder or stream feeder. 1.2 Sheet control and transfer systems are set to suit the substrate feeding requirements. 1.3 Delivery and anti set-off systems are set to meet the requirements of the press and job specifications. 1.4 Press is run ensuring that the sheet control system is set to transport the substrate through the press. Range check – two sheet detecting device setting, feed gripper settings, suction, airblast, registration, delivery. Outcome 2 Make ready the sheet-fed offset printing press for single colour work. Evidence requirements 2.1 Plate and packing are mounted; plate tensioned for stability during printing; and cylinder pressure adjusted to suit substrate calliper. 2.2 Inking and damping systems are set to meet the requirements of the press and job specifications. 2.3 Prints are taken and confirmed against job sample or layout for correct image transfer and position. 2.4 Press is fine tuned ensuring the required production standards are achieved. Range 2.5 may include, but is not limited to – pressures, inking, register, delivery, ink and water balance. Lay marks are placed on the plate ensuring consistent registration of the job is achieved. Range side lay, head lays. 2.6 Prints are passed for production run and approval to run is obtained in accordance with workplace practices. 2.7 Counter is set ready for commencement of run.
