Definitions
Vagahau Niue refers to the language of Niue. This unit standard involves written
Vagahau Niue;
Simple refers to simple sentences, simple compound sentences, limited use of
dependent clauses, and common usage vocabulary;
Familiar refers to topics and settings that are within the learner’s normal personal
experience;
Wordlist refers to a provided limited vocabulary;
Summary refers to a condensed version containing main ideas of the passage. The
ideas may be expressed in note form.

This unit standard requires two written passages in Vagahau Niue on predictable
topics, of at least 150 words per passage. A wordlist and/or bilingual dictionary may
be used.

Endorsement of village language variation may be conducted by pulotu, village or
community appointed experts.

Responses may be in spoken or written English. Achievement of the evidence
requirements allows for minor errors in summarising and English expression.
