Definitions
Vagahau Niue refers to the language of Niue. This unit standard involves written
Vagahau Niue;
Context refers to communicative situations, topics and settings appropriate to written
Vagahau Niue;
Less familiar refers to topics and settings that may be outside the learner’s normal
personal experience;
Wordlist refers to a provided limited vocabulary;
Summary refers to a condensed version containing main ideas of the passage. The
ideas may be expressed in note form.

This unit standard requires two complex written passages in Vagahau Niue, of at
least 200 words per passage. A wordlist and/or Vagahau Niue-English dictionary
may be used.

Endorsement of village language variation may be conducted by pulotu, village or
community appointed experts.

Responses are to be in written English. Achievement of the evidence requirements
allows for minor errors in summarising and English expression.
