Classification Languages > Vagahau Niue Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Definitions Vagahau Niue refers to the authentic language of Niue. This unit standard involves the usage of spoken Vagahau Niue; Exchange means to convey and seek; Extended discussion means two-way exchange of opinions; Complex refers to a wider range of vocabulary and tenses in sentences containing one or more dependent clauses, and more complicated grammatical structures; Contexts refer to communicative situations, topics and settings that are relevant to spoken Vagahau Niue; Situations could be the work environment or social situations; Less familiar refers to topics and settings that may be outside the learner’s normal personal experience. 2 Evidence is required from two extended discussions, each with a minimum involvement of five minutes. 3 Language used must be in complex Vagahau Niue, and may be spoken with villagebased dialectal differences and intonation. 4 Endorsement of village language variation may be conducted by pulotu, village or community appointed experts. 5 Achievement of the evidence requirements allows for few minor errors in grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and intonation. Minor errors must not obscure the meaning.
