October 30- First Marking Period Ends; Fall Party 2:45-3:45 Writing Students will create a PowerPoint on the rollercoasters they designed and information on the energy source they chose to power their rollercoasters will be included. They will include scientific terms such as force, motion, and gravity. Students will also create an opinion piece in which they will be writing a letter to King George III. Students will continue to use their Chrome Books throughout their writing process including drafting, editing, and publishing. Read All About It! Please note that students do not enter the school building in the morning until 9:05 am. Please do not send your child to school before 9:05 am, as we do not have the staffing to supervise them before this time. Thank you for your help in this matter. All parents must check in at the front office before going to any classroom, including portables. Birthdays are to be celebrated in the cafeteria only. Please remember, only store bought cupcakes are permitted. Parents must stay and serve cupcakes to your child’s class only. Students will be using their agenda books to write down their long term assignments and homework. Please check them daily. Math Students will be focusing on place value understanding. They will read and write decimals. Then, they will use place value knowledge to explain patterns when a decimal is multiplied or divided by a power of ten. Followed by that, students will round decimals to the thousandths place. Students will add and subtract decimals using terms such as sum and difference. Social Studies Reading Students will be studying about the thirteen colonies and will analyze the viewpoints of the Patriots and Loyalists. They will use the Colonial time period to evaluate the conflicts and compromises between the Colonies and the British Empire and the events that led to the Revolutionary War. The students will be reading non-fiction text and using text features (glossary, captions, etc.) to build on their understanding of the topic. They will also focus on the characteristics of tall tales, such as hyperbole and creation of historical landmarks. The focus in small group will be to build students’ comprehension skills. Please continue to make sure your students are reading for at least 20 bbnevery night. The expectations are that the students will read at least 6 books and write short summaries about each of them by the end of the quarter. Science Students will be developing an understanding of the characteristics of energy production and motion. Our students will continue working on their renewable resources project, which covers energy production and the development of a theme park roller coaster. Contact us!
