TITLE: Health and Science Computer

Lab Assistant

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

CATEGORY: Classified

GRADE: Technology

JOB SUMMARY: Position is responsible for providing guidance and technical support for computer-assisted learning programs at the Health Science Labs. Orients, guides, and tutors students in use of the equipment and programs.

1. Assists students with course assignments, monitor labs, and orient students to equipment and software and provide coaching, tutoring, training, and feedback as needed.

2. Ensures equipment is in good working condition, resolves problems, and secures lab supplies. Maintains and installs software and hardware. Performs routine repairs. Trouble shoots NetWare installation, sets up servers, runs RJ45 cables, and replaces RJ45 heads as needed.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS :

EDUCATION: Associate’s Degree or equivalent

SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Skills/Abilities: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both oral and written. Familiarity with computer hardware and software in order to effectively diagnose software or hardware problems.

Equipment Used: Personal computers and related equipment found in a computer laboratory.

Software Used: A variety of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

Duties require little to moderate physical effort in working with light (up to 30lbs), easy to handle materials. Duties performed may cause light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other faculties due to long periods of standing, sitting, or repetitive motion.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

Skills of persuasiveness or assertiveness, as well as, sensitivity to the other person’s point of view are often required to influence behavior, change an opinion, turn a situation around, cause action, or understanding in others. This level of interpersonal skills is required in positions, which regularly interact with others, through personal contact or presentations, within the organization or members in the community.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Job is performed in laboratory setting or comparable working area with many and frequent distractions such as noise, interruptions, or congested work areas with exposure to some disagreeable elements.
