JOB SUMMARY: Perform clerical duties associated with library lending, which includes
circulation activities and assists at the periodical desk.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Check in and check out library books/materials; examine and process
reserved (hold) forms; shelve, retrieve, package and mail reserved
materials; may request materials from other locations, as needed, answer
phone request.

2. Use an automated system identifying overdue books/materials and notifies
borrower; compute fines and generates cancellation memo; record receipt
of payment for lost/overdue materials; compile data; prepare and route
reports, on computer.

3. Provide general library information services (days, nights, and weekends),
including lending/borrowing procedures, research direction, equipment
operation, etc.; ensure equipment is operational.

4. Develop and implement shelf-reading arrangement and procedures.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: One year of college or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of experience.
SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Skills/Abilities: The ability to organize and communicate information,
effective public relations skills, attention to details and proficient computer
skills.
2. Equipment Used: Personal Computer, fax, telephone, copier, and other
equipment associated with an office environment.

3. Software Used: A variety of word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail,
and presentation software.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Duties require little physical effort in work with light (up to 10lbs), easy to handle
materials.
Duties performed causes light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other
faculties due to long periods of standing, sitting, and/or repetitive motion.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Alternative or combined skills in understanding, counseling, and/or influencing people are
important in achieving job objectives, causing action, understanding others, or changing
behavior; and, skills of persuasiveness or assertiveness, as well as sensitivity to the point
of view of others.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Job is performed in general office or comparable working area with many and frequent
distractions such as noise, interruptions, or congested work areas with exposure to some
disagreeable elements.
