POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Vice President Student Services Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Administrative G JOB SUMMARY: Serve as a member of the President’s Cabinet with executive responsibility for the planning, management and evaluation of student services that support the accomplishment of the District’s Mission, Vision, Core Values and the continuation of the District’s accreditation status. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 30% 1. Promote administrative excellence and accountability, creativity, leadership and cooperation/teamwork through comprehensive District-wide student support programs and enrollment management services including: Recruitment and School Relations, Admissions & Registrar, Testing Services, Student Financial Aid (Financial Aid and Veterans Affairs), Police Department, Athletics, Center for Student with Disabilities, Career Services, Student Leadership and Campus Life, and Dual Credit/Early College High School Programs Student Services. 2. Administer and manage student discipline program as it relates to student disorderly conduct or disruptive behavior. This includes conducting hearings, investigations, assess findings of fact and render decisions. 10% 3. Track trends, best practices, and current legal issues to ensure student programs and services are current, relevant, and legal. Direct the implementation of programs and strategies to improve these services within assigned areas of responsibility. 10% 4. Participation in executive level committees, liaison to community entities and workgroups, and conduct special studies as assigned by the President of the College. 10% 5. Assess and recommend facility needs for student services and activities. 10% 6. Provide creative and energetic leadership in strategic planning by developing new initiatives and goals that promote achievement of the College’s mission. 10% 7. Plan, develop and administer annual budget requests and assume responsibility for department heads operating within the approved budget of the Student Services division. 10% 8. Represent the division of Student Services at the Board of Trustee meetings and at other local, state, and national meetings and activities. 5% 9. BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES: Departmental Budgets. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Master’s degree in a directly related field required. Doctorate strongly preferred. EXPERIENCE: Twelve (12) years increasingly responsible administrative experience, including managerial and supervisory experience in an academic setting. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Skills/Abilities: Comprehensive knowledge of community college administration. Broad knowledge of student services functions. Knowledge of Admissions and Records procedures/policies/mandates. Knowledge of Texas and Federal laws and regulations related to education in general and community colleges specifically. Ability to use logic, experience and knowledge to evaluate information and problem situations. Remain current with educational trends, issues and challenges for community colleges. Excellent communication, written and verbal, and interpersonal skills. Providing leadership at all levels of the College. Working effectively with a diverse and multi-cultural student body and staff. Experience making public presentations.
