Student Services Program Planning Annual Update Department: Matriculation and Assessment Services Date : Spring 2013 Goals and Recommendations from Program Plan List the top five goals and recommendations from the last Program Plan and indicate whether they have been met Goals / Recommendations from six-year plan MATRICULATION 1.Work with Instruction and Student Services to design effective follow-up strategies and services in order to increase persistence and success of students at risk of failing or leaving college. 2.Work with ESL to identify an assessment instrument that will support their redesigned curriculum. Revised October 22, 2012 In progress (in clude projected timeline) X Source of funding Comments (include any modifications to goals due to feedback, discussion and/or evaluation – refer to data when possible) Either current funds (none specifically for this) or proposed Student Success funds (?) The new SSAct of 2012 has follow up as a component on which to focus. It will also be a small component that can be counted for funding. The counseling dept has already designed and is piloting their first required workshops for students on disqualification and probation. The dept is starting with those in the most serious category (disqualified) and requiring them to attend a workshop with a counselor rather than meeting with a counselor to convince them to release a “hold.” Staff will be trained to release the holds after the workshops. The process/policy for handling students that have “ancient” progress holds are still being reviewed for new ways to work with them; the new Datatel Retention program has some aspects we may want to consider. This will be receiving more attention since the SSA has been approved. The ESL dept identified CELSA as their test of choice. Assessment Center has been trying to increase participation through different means: set hours, now individual appointments. Have been part of meetings in ESL dept about their role in both requiring new students to take the assessment and having faculty adhere to the placements. Very complicated issues within the dept Title V grant (ending 2013) Goal Met that we cannot control. With a state designed test coming in the future we may stop using this one. When funding (TV) is gone not sure what we will do. Maybe use Student Success funds?
