The new SSAct of 2012 has follow up as a component on
which to focus. It will also be a small component that
can be counted for funding. The counseling dept has
already designed and is piloting their first required
workshops for students on disqualification and
probation. The dept is starting with those in the most
serious category (disqualified) and requiring them to
attend a workshop with a counselor rather than meeting
with a counselor to convince them to release a “hold.”
Staff will be trained to release the holds after the
workshops. The process/policy for handling students
that have “ancient” progress holds are still being
reviewed for new ways to work with them; the new
Datatel Retention program has some aspects we may
want to consider. This will be receiving more attention
since the SSA has been approved.
The ESL dept identified CELSA as their test of choice.
Assessment Center has been trying to increase
participation through different means: set hours, now
individual appointments. Have been part of meetings in
ESL dept about their role in both requiring new students
to take the assessment and having faculty adhere to the
placements. Very complicated issues within the dept

that we cannot control. With a state designed test
coming in the future we may stop using this one. When
funding (TV) is gone not sure what we will do. Maybe
use Student Success funds?
