There will be a special festive Mass with the Jesuit Community as well as the University Community at 4 PM on the 31st. Since the Jesuit Community is temporarily housed at 2000 Commonwealth Avenue, while St Mary’s is undergoing renovations, the Rector of the Jesuit Community asked if they could have their Community liturgy at St Ignatius. Members of the Parish and the University are invited. There will also be the regular 5:30 weekday Mass in the Lannon Chapel. In anticipation of the feast I invite you to pray with three prayers that come from St Ignatius. SUSCIPE (ST. IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA) ANIMA CHRISTI (ST. IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA) Soul of Christ, sanctify me Body of Christ, save me Water from the side of Christ, wash me Passion of Christ, strengthen me Good Jesus, hear me Within the wounds, shelter me from turning away, keep me From the evil one, protect me At the hour of my death, call me Into your presence lead me to praise you with all your saints Take, Lord, and receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding and my entire will, All I have and call my own. You have given all to me. To you, Lord, I return it. Everything is yours; do with it what you will. Give me only your love and your grace. That is enough for me. PRAYER FOR GENEROSITY (ST. IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA) Lord, teach me to be generous. Teach me to serve you as you deserve; to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not to seek for rest, to labor and not to ask for reward, save that of knowing that I do your will. Forever and ever. Amen. 1. THIS W EEK’S CALENDAR Sunday, July 28th Wed. If you enjoy the book please come to the living room in the Parish Offices for a discussion on September 15th at 11:15am. (If you don't enjoy the book, come anyway and tell us why.) All are welcome! ST. IGNATIUS MUSIC MINISTRY Our 5:30pm Contemporary Ensemble will continue throughout the summer. Our ensemble members contribute time and talent to enrich our liturgies week after week, for which we are most grateful. Our traditional 10am choir will reconvene after Labor Day and will be looking for new members at that time. Anyone interested in either group can contact Michael Burgo at burgo@bc.edu. 2. MAKING ORDINARY TIME EXTRAORDINARY Dear Parishioners, Summer is a blessed season—a period of relaxation and slowing down, and an especially fruitful time to enrich prayer life. The liturgical calendar also transitions from Pentecost into Ordinary time. At Pentecost, we are showered with the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit—Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel (right judgment), Knowledge, Fortitude (courage), Piety (reverence), and Fear of the Lord (wonder and awe). As you journey through summer, the Spiritual Life Commission would like to offer you a simple prayer “exercise” that we hope might make this Ordinary time extraordinary. Inspired by the Spirit’s grace, we invite you to consider how these seven wonderful gifts are at work in your life by reflecting on a series of Ignatian Examen-style questions, based on the individual gifts. We will be providing the exercises in the Bulletin every other week as well as on the parish website. To deepen the experience, consider connecting with a spiritual “companion” or forming a small group with whom to share the movements of the Spirit as summer progresses. Imagine yourselves as disciples in Luke’s Emmaus gospel (Luke 24:13-35), journeying together, reflecting on the mystery of the Resurrection and how the various gifts of Christ’s Spirit solidify our oneness in Him. Without a doubt, you are bound to meet Jesus on the way! Blessings, The Spiritual Life Commission FORTITUDE (STRENGTH OR COURAGE) THE GIFT I SEEK: I pray for Fortitude, which prompts me to undertake very difficult trials and to bear suffering when it is in accordance with God’s will and endured for God’s greater glory. May the Spirit grant me the kind of courage that “bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things” (1Cor13:7), and may those who suffer in mind and body be given the strength to persevere, trusting in the tender care which God shows for all creation. REFLECTION: • What anxieties do I nurture that are not in keeping with the sure hope of eternal life? Can I “let go and let God?” 3.
