Summer Music Ministry Throughout the summer, two of our music ministry ensembles
continue to meet to prepare music for liturgies. Our Spanish
Mass Coro meets at 11:15 a.m. downstairs in the Lannon Chapel,
before the 12 p.m. Spanish Mass. There are also occasional
Thursday evening rehearsals. The Contemporary Ensemble
gathers at 5 p.m. for quick run-throughs before 5:30 Mass. If
you are interested in participating in either group, contact Michael Burgo at 552-6108 or burgo@bc.edu. St. Ignatius Priorities Survey At our Pastoral Council meeting in June, there was a desire expressed for parishioners to fill out a brief survey on pastoral priorities, especially with the advent of a new pastor in June 2016. If
you could take a few moments and fill this out online, we would
be most grateful. The link is:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/StIgPriorities. Online surveys are much easier for us to tabulate than paper ones. However, if you do not have access to a computer, paper surveys are
available in the back of the church. Please submit your survey
responses – either online or on paper – by August 26. Saint Ignatius Pledge Program We are pleased to say that donations made by parishioners who
participate in the Pledge Program account for 60% of the annual
budget needs of $1.5 m. To date, 25% of our parishioners participate in the program. Our goal is to have all members consider
making a pledge, however big or small, in order to help us maintain both our programs and building. You can sign up for automated donations via credit card or bank, or fill out a pledge card
located in the back of the church. If you are already signed up,
please let us know when your credit card expires or your credit
card number changes. For more information, contact Database
Manager, Kyle Crosby at 617-552-6119 or Kyle.Crosby@bc.edu

Queridos Parroquianos,
a mí.

Book Discussion
Are you looking for summer reading and greater parish participation? We’re here to help on both counts. May we suggest that
you read the book Being Mortal by Atul Gawande this summer
and attend the discussion, which will take place on September
13 at 11:15 in the parish office. In this book Gawande looks at
the problems of aging and the inevitability of death. He points
out how common it is for modern medicine to fail the people it is
supposed to be helping (i.e., in striving to give patients health
and survival, their well-being can be neglected). As the end of life
approaches, Gawande insists that we look at the “Dying Role,”
which he describes as patients’ ability to “share memories, pass
on wisdom and keepsakes, settle relationships, establish legacies
and make peace with their God.” Please join us in September for
discussion of this thoughtful, well-written book.
Free Parish Collectibles We have a large Mosler safe (31x23X24) and an old Standard
Johnson electric money counter in the Parish Office that are
looking for a new home. Both are free, but the responsibility of
moving them lies with the new owner. Email or call the Parish
office with inquiries, Ignatius@bc.edu or 617-552-6102
2015 Catholic Appeal Update We are grateful for the contributions our parishioners have
made toward the Archdiocesan Appeal. St. Ignatius has raised
$74,104 or 95% of the 2015 Catholic Appeal assessed goal of
$77,960. We hope parishioners will continue to donate to the
Cardinal’s Appeal so that we do not have to use funds from our
operating budget. On behalf of Cardinal Seán O’Malley and all
who benefit from your generosity, thank you for your support.

August 9 – Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Elijah threw in the towel, “This is enough O Lord. Take my life.”,
but God would hear none of it: “Get up and eat” In the beautiful
Bread of Life discourse in the Gospel today, Jesus tells us that He
is the Bread of Life “…whoever eats this bread will live forever;
and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”
When tempted to sit under the broom tree and give up, remember that Jesus is here, waiting to feed you with this Bread of Life.
August 16 –Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Both the reading from Wisdom and Saint Paul’s word to the
Ephesians caution against foolish behavior: “forsake foolishness”; “live not as foolish persons”. And today, Jesus continues
to teach us about the Bread of Life. The ultimate foolishness is
being absent from the banquet of the Lord. Do you know someone who isn’t here this week? Pray for strength to invite that
person to come to the table.

Graduate Student Seeking Room My name is Laura, and I will be a graduate student at the B.C.
School of Theology and Ministry this fall. I live with my husband
and daughters in beautiful Portland, Maine. Since I will be
commuting by bus down to Boston once a week for classes, clustering my courses to two consecutive days, I am looking for a
hospitable family or individual that would be willing to open
their home to me one night a week during the academic year. If
you have a heart for hospitality, or if you don’t mind sharing
your space once a week, and you have room in your home—
either a guest room or family room with a couch would do—I
would be happy to tell you more about myself and answer any
questions. Tel. 207-370-9879, ltennenh@gmail.com.
Separation, Divorce and Beyond
Separation and divorce is painful, often shattering. Blessed Sacrament Parish in Walpole is offering a 10-week program facilitated by a group of Catholics who have themselves endured separation and divorce. This program is designed to offer support
and healing for those who have experienced a failed marriage
and offer hope for the prospect of better tomorrows, by discussing subjects such as anger, self-image, loneliness, blame and
guilt. The program consists of 10 meetings, on Sunday evenings, 7:00 to 8:30 PM, held in the Community Room at Blessed
Sacrament Parish in Walpole, September 13 through November
15, 2015. If interested in learning more or to sign up for this
program, please contact Jeanie Mattila at 508 384-8779 or
jean.matte6@gmail.com, or John Meuleman at 781 982-6097 or
jmeulema@russelectric.com. Sign up is required by Sept. 8.
Teacher Seeking Room Rental
A woman who lives on the Cape, but teaches in Newton, is looking to rent a room with a private bathroom. Ideally this would be
a clean and quiet space for four nights a week Monday through
Thursday, from September to June, hoping to pay $500–600 per
month. Please contact parishioner Maria Sullivan at mariasullivan47@gmail.com
UPCOMING OUTREACH MINISTRIES
COR UNUM MEAL CENTER, LAWRENCE: There is one more summer Saturday night of ministry at Cor Unum: August 15th. We could definitely use more servers! Servers may car pool from
church, leaving at 3PM and returning by about 8PM; those living “closer” to Lawrence may choose
to go directly there. Servers must be at least 10 years of age. If you’d like to serve, or if you have
questions about serving at Cor Unum, please call Sr. Diane at 617-552-6107.
ARE YOU UP FOR A CHALLENGE?? This year, Habitat for Humanity Greater Boston is building
a duplex (pictured) on Woodbine Street in Roxbury, where we did our May 30th Build. One of these
homes is being built in honor of Pope Francis, in recognition of his inspirational leadership of the
Roman Catholic Church. Major funding for the house has been made possible through a generous
$60,000 challenge grant by an anonymous donor. The Pope Francis House donor seeks to inspire the
Greater Boston community to raise at least $60,000 to support this special build. If you would like to
help match the generous funding, you can make an online donation by going to HabitatBoston.org;
be sure to type “Pope Francis House” in the Dedication Field. Or you may donate by mail: Habitat
for Humanity Greater Boston, Attn: Pope Francis Build, 240 Commercial St. Boston, MA 02129.
