We just finished Unit Eight, which targeted fractions.
Unit 9 revisits coordinates, area, and introduces capacity
and volume. I will also be including some math
problems in CSAP format to prepare students for the
upcoming assessments.
Literature Circle Supplies: We are in need of
GLUE STICKS and SMALL STICKY NOTES.
Pick up a few extra packs and send them in - it is
much appreciated!

Students enjoyed identifying how advertisements
used logic, emotions, and a sense of trustworthiness
to convince viewers and readers. Next week,
students will be choosing persuasive topics and
creating drafts. Some may wish to send their
letters/essays to a publication or a school official.
Please let me know if you prefer that your child’s
name NOT be published. ► Spelling homework –
We worked on personification this week to help
with the spelling sentences assignment. Next week’s
homework will be from the text book.
There are two great opportunities on Saturday, February
28 for families to have some fun with science. Putnam
Elementary is hosting a science carnival from 11:003:00. There will many fun activities including cockroach
races, cool lasers and giant bubbles. Admission is $2.
Putnam is at 1400 Maple Street.
Social Studies –
Announcements & Upcoming Events
Students are currently studying exploration and
discovery in social studies. As part of this unit of
study they are creating board games based upon the
journeys of explorers from the pre-colonial and
colonial period. Students will design a game that
incorporates the route the chosen explorer took and
facts about the journey. Most students will be able to
finish this assignment in the time allotted at school
The 18th Annual Little Shop of Physics Open House is
also on Saturday in the Lory Student Center at CSU.
There are over 250 interactive experiments for kids and
adults. This free activity is always fun for everyone. If
students write a brief description of three of their
favorite activities from either science event we will give
them extra-credit in science.
