Greetings from Poudre High School!!
My name is Mrs. Motichka. I am a math teacher at Poudre High School. This is my sixth year teaching and my third year at Poudre. This semester I will be working with Mr. Benedict, a student teacher from CSU. He is an excellent leader who is eager to teach math.
I am writing this letter to inform you about the procedures and expectations in my classroom. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at school by phone: (970)4166197 or by email: kemotich@psdschools.org <mailto:kemotich@psdschools.org>
. We are going to have a great year!
Rules:
The main rule in my class is to be SMART. Each letter stands for a different guideline. S SUCCESS M MOTIVATION A ATTIITUDE R RESPECT T TEAMWORK If you abide by each of these guidelines you will do well in my class.
kbenedic@psdschools.org
Consequences:
If you choose to ignore these rules you will have to face the consequences:
1.
First: You will have a warning discussion with the teacher.
2.
Second: You will have another discussion with the teacher and your parent/guardian will be contacted by the teacher.
3.
Third: You will be sent to the office where an administrator will contact your parent/guardian and a behavior plan will be developed.
4.
If a second removal is required the behavior plan will be reviewed.
5.
If a third removal occurs, expulsion from the class may be considered.
6.
For severe disruptions, students will be sent immediately to the office.
Beginning of class:
1.
In this room, the teacher does not start the class. The bell does not start the class. You (the students) start the class.
2.
When you enter the class, you will have a warmup to do in your notebook. You will be asked to define a term or solve problems. You will have approximately 5 to 10 minutes to complete the task. Warmups are part of your notebook grade and will be checked weekly.
Materials for class:
1.
You will need to bring a 3ring binder for this class. In this 3ring binder you will organize your supplies. These supplies include: a pencil, a pen, a notebook, dividers, and loose leaf paper. You will also need to bring your text book.
2.
Also if possible, a graphing calculator is extremely helpful at this level of mathematics.
Classwork/Homework:
1.
Each day after the warmup activity you will take out your homework. You may use it to answer about 3 to 5 questions on a paper that will be collected by the teacher.
2.
Next, we will correct the homework and answer any questions.
3.
Finally, we will move on to the lesson and new assignment.
Quizzes, Tests & Extra Credit: 1.
Students will take periodic quizzes over the material that has been covered. They will be worth more than daily homework checks.
2.
Also, students will take a test at the end of each unit that will be worth at least 100 points.
3.
If you miss a quiz or a test, you will be expected to take it when you return unless there are special circumstances.
4.
If you have an unexcused absence the day of a quiz or test you can only receive up to 10% of the possible points when you make up the work.
5.
Extra credit is not given on a regular basis. Extra credit may be given on quizzes or tests but do not count on it to save your grade at the end of the semester.
Grades:
1.
Your overall grade is not weighted. Everything in this class counts at a points value.
2.
The final will make up a large part of your grade if you are required to take it. It is difficult and it can make a large impact on your grade.
3.
Class grades will be updated regularly on Pinnacle Internet Viewer (PIV). Grades will also be posted periodically on the board with your fake ID. I will tell you your PIV code and fake ID if needed.
4.
Keep an eye on your grades because I will contact your parents/guardians if you are receiving a D or an F in my class. When you are absent:
1.
Any absence must be excused through the office. An unexcused absence or an absence due to suspension means the work done in class that day will be accepted late for only 10% of the credit. This includes quizzes and tests.
2.
For an excused absence, you can find out what you missed from at least two places. You can ask a friend or check the assignment board. Remember you only have one day for each day missed to make up an assignment.
3.
Any time you miss 10 minutes or more of class, you receive an absence. Three tardies equals one unexcused absence. Your parents will be notified of recurring absences. After 6 absences, you may be removed from the class. Refer to the PHS Attendance Policy for more information.
Leaving the room & End of class:
1.
If you must leave the room, please ask the teacher at an appropriate time. I will say no if you ask too often. Please be sure not to disrupt the class when you are leaving or returning.
2.
If the case of an emergency please leave and tell me what happened later.
3.
When the bell rings, you are not released from class. The teacher releases you from class. You must be seated, quiet, and have all materials returned before you are released. The teacher will say, “Have a nice day!” and you may leave the classroom. Thank you! ~ Mrs. Motichka & Mr. Benedict
