Fifth Grade Happenings Reading-Audrey Hazleton Ms. Sanfacon’s Class ahazleto@psdschools.org Math - Tim Pearson March 12, 2009 timothyp@psdschools.org We have had a great time this week sharing our third quarter book projects. These creative projects have inspired great discussions while getting kids excited about new books to read. We have also just completed our Literature Circle books with the theme “justice and equality” and the genre of Historical Fiction. If you haven’t already, ask your child about the book they read and how they experienced this book. Fifth graders love historical fiction – they get immersed into great stories while learning about history! Writing/Language/Spelling - Social Studies – Jean Sanfacon jsanfaco@psdschools.org EXPLORER PROJECT – Students have had a lot of fun writing trivia questions, developing game rules, and designing intricate game boards. Ask your child about his or her explorer. You’ll be amazed and enlightened! After break, students will finish their games and play them with each other and their Book Buddies. Students are revising their persuasive essays. Topics include: banning pit bulls, a new skate park in town, wearing hats in school, athletes as role models, and several pleas for various game systems. Many have expressed an interest in sending letters to the editor of The Coloradoan. Please let me know if you prefer that your child’s name NOT be published. There will be no spelling homework during CSAP testing. Spelling assignments will resume April 6th. Homework Club Fifth grade students are invited to attend Homework Club on Wednesdays in Ms. Sanfacon’s room from 3:40 until 4:30. We want to offer students the opportunity and space to complete homework and get extra help if they need it. Snacks will be provided. If you can help out by donating snacks or drinks, we’d greatly appreciate it. Contact any one of us with questions.
