Welcome to 5th Grade! Dear Families, Welcome to another school year. I hope everyone had a restful summer. I look forward to working with you and your child. By working together, we can make this school year successful and rewarding. Your child will have two teachers this year. I will be teaching Reading, Language, and Spelling for the 20102011 school year. Mrs. Jenny Domingues and I will be working together to support all of our student’s academic successes. Please make an effort to attend Dozier’s open house which will be announced later. Here are a few things you should know: 1. I will be collecting $ 3.00 for student planners and $7.00 for art and incentives. Please send this as soon as possible. 2. Please sign and return all papers with a highlighted mark that are in the yellow Dozier folder. 3. Please get any school supplies that you have not gotten. Policies and Procedures: Behavior and conduct: Our classrooms need to be a safe and orderly learning environment for your child. In order to maintain this climate, we have some simple classroom instructions for students to follow: 1. Listen when others are talking. 2. 3. 4. 5. Follow directions. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. Work quietly and do not disturb others. Show respect for others, school, and personal property. 6. Work and play in a safe manner. Consequences: 1st conduct mark-warning (S) 2nd conduct mark-Teacher student conference (N) 3rd conduct mark-1st minor infraction form (N) 4th conduct mark-2nd minor infraction form (U) 5th conduct mark-office referral (U) Students are given verbal and nonverbal warnings to correct the undesired behavior before they receive a conduct mark on our conduct charts. Conduct grades are given based on the number of infractions the student receives each week. The conduct grading scale is as follows: 0-1 Conduct marks-S (satisfactory) 2-3 Conduct marks-N (needs improvement) 4-5 Conduct marks-U (unsatisfactory) Test Paper Folders A test paper folder will go home every Wednesday. It will contain all of your child’s graded papers from the previous week, as well as, weekly notes from class or the office. PLEASE SIGN THE COVER SHEET AND RETURN THE FOLDER AND ALL THE TEST PAPERS TO SCHOOL THE NEXT DAY. These papers have to be kept on file for one year, so please do not keep any papers at home. **All papers must come back stapled together to insure you have seen them all. Grading Scale: 100-94 A 93-87 B 86-77 C 76-69 D 69-0 F Homework/Participation: Homework will be checked daily. Students will be responsible for coping their assignments into their student planner. A record will be kept of those students who do not do their homework. If your child does not have homework it will result to a minus one point per day off their participation grade. A participation grade will be given in Reading and Language/Spelling each six weeks. It will be worth 30 points. In conclusion, I am looking forward to working with you this upcoming year. If you have any questions concerning your child throughout the year, please send a note, call the office to schedule an appointment (937-6915), or send me an email.
