HELPFUL TIPS to help you succeed with ease… Your course materials are processed on a firstcome first-served basis. An additional charge may be passed on to your students if pages must be edited. Allow at least 4 to 6 weeks for packets containing copywritten material. The closer we get to the start of the semester, the longer it takes to obtain permission. Thousands of faculty across the nation are also trying to obtain permission from the same few publishers during the same few weeks. For Spring Semester, keep in mind that replies from publishers for copyright permission become extremely slow during winter season holidays due to vacationing staff. Copyright permission must be requested from the publisher for every semester. We request only one semester at a time because there are a variety of circumstances which may prevent the same material from being included in a subsequent printing of a CourseWorks for the same class. A complete bibliography for each semester is extremely important for copywritten material including: publisher, author, title, ISBN, copyright year, volume number, edition and exact page numbers. Your department’s Textbook Coordinator can provide you with a bibliography form. We cannot guarantee that permission will be granted, assume that permission is forthcoming, or print the materials based on previous permission. Publishers change their policies and change their copyright fees regularly. If we sell out of a particular CourseWorks, the students may request a copy at the Textbook Counter. Textbook staff will call the students when the CourseWorks packet is available and reserve it at the counter for them to pick up. Reprints are usually available the next business day. We look carefully at past enrollments and the purchasing history of a particular class in order to make an educated decision to determine the quantity of packets to print. We print copies for 100% of the class enrollment only on CourseWorks produced for the first time. In most cases, approximately 80% of the students in a class will purchase the required materials. We are happy to provide you with past sales information for your course. We print between 2 million and 3 million pages each semester and try to keep waste at a minimum. By virtue of an agreement between ISU Administration and the owners of Campus Book Store, CBS is allowed to purchase a copy of your coursepack and reproduce and sell it provided they obtain proper copyright permission. Iowa State University Book Store, a not-for-profit department owned and operated by the University, helps support students and other ISU service units. The University Book Store receives no student fees or state funding. (rev. 09/01) D:\533562111.doc
