Qualifications Education/Certification Bachelor’s Degree with Special Education Certification Special Knowledge/Skills Knowledge of educational administration and leadership Thorough understanding of school operations and policies Strong organization, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to coordinate campus compliance issues Thorough understanding of Local, State and Federal Rules and Regulations governing special education including Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Americans With Disabilities Act, and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) Ability to access and interpret the Legal Framework for the Child Centered Process, Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS), and the Student Attendance Accounting Handbook Knowledge of evaluation instruments; interpretation and implications for students Experience Three years experience in an educational setting MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Instructional and Program Management 1. Assists campus administrators and personnel to understand the provision of a free, appropriate public education (FAPE) for students with special needs. 2. Maintains records and tracks expenditures for District-wide requests by parents for Independent Educational Evaluations. 3. Attends ARDC meetings for critical cases as determined by the Executive Director Compliance Special Ed. 4. Provides academic and instructional program support to teachers relevant to student Individual Education Plans (IEPs). 5. Provides leadership to teachers on curriculum, instructional techniques, strategies, and training relevant to student Individual Education Plans (IEPs). 6. Maintains current with trends in special education and research based programs to support student IEPs. 7. Works with District personnel in goal setting and planning. 8. Plans and presents staff development relevant to Special Education compliance issues, documentation of progress, special education modifications and accommodations, supplementary aids and services, and differentiated instruction. 9. Maintains knowledge of District and community resources to support effective educational programs and assist campuses with student IEPs and the delivery of FAPE. 11. Maintains knowledge of the Procedural Safeguards. 12. Reviews, analyzes, and provides feedback regarding student evaluations relevant to special education compliance. 13. Interpret local, state, and federal policy. 14. Maintains a budget for Independent Educational Evaluation and current contracts with independent evaluators. 15. Participates in professional growth required by IDEA, NCLB, local and state regulations, and District mandates. 16. Identifies and participates in District level Professional Learning Communities to enhance professional growth, communication, and community relations.
