Primary Purpose
Assist in providing direct/indirect supportive instruction to students with disabilities placed in either
general education and/or special education classroom settings. Implement ARD required
accommodations and modifications.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
High School diploma or GED certificate
Minimum of 48 credit hours from an accredited institution of higher education or
Passing score on the ParaPro Assessment
Special Knowledge/Skills
 Ability to work with children with disabilities
 Ability to communicate effectively with students and teachers
 Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
 Strong organization, communication and interpersonal skills
 Ability to work flexible schedules
Experience
Experience related to working with students or teachers
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Instructional and Program Management

Maintains confidentiality.
Assist with ensuring full implementation of ARD required instructional modifications and
accommodations.
Support an interactive and cooperative learning environment.
Assist in implementation of adaptive/assistive equipment as outlined in the IEP.
Assist teachers through input of grading and progress reports as required.
Supervise group and individual activities as directed by the classroom teacher.
Assist the teacher in preparing for ARD committee meetings.
Provide positive role modeling related to social skills.
Assist teacher(s) during field trips and/or community based learning activities.
Assist in the maintenance and orderliness within the classroom.
Assist in the preparation of instructional classroom materials.
Assist the teacher in maintaining individual portfolio assessments.
Implement and monitor behavior intervention plans.
Assist wheelchair bound students as designated by the IEP.
Assist students in personal hygiene, toileting, diapering, grooming, and eating.
Supervise students’ arrival and departure from the classroom and/or bus, checking with bus monitor on
student concerns, assist students in moving to other classrooms, and assist with Physical Education,
cafeteria, monitoring playground, and extracurricular activities.
Provides individualized instruction to assist students with IEP goals and objectives.

18. Participate in staff development related to, adaptive/assistive devices, classroom instructional
strategies, behavior intervention, social skills training, and working with children with disabilities.
19. Maintains documentation regarding service delivery.
Supervisory Responsibilities
None
Equipment Used
Instructional aids, adaptive-assistive equipment, audio-visual equipment, wheelchair lift, ramps, and
copier.
Physical and Mental Job Requirements
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors
Maintain emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions. Frequent standing,
stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; heavy lifting of students. Biological exposure to
bacteria and communicable diseases. Place children on toilet. Must be able to lift a minimum of 40
pounds. However, weight requirement will vary according to individual weight of students in the
classroom.
Terms of Employment
184 days; salary to be determined by the Board of Trustees
