TEST VS MODIFIED TEST
SUGGESTIONS FOR MODIFIED TESTS
1. Start with your assessment.
Know what specific concepts are tested
2. Teach your lesson making sure tested concepts are included.
If applicable make sure students get plenty of in class time to complete example
problems or apply new concepts taught.
3. Create your modified test using the TEA Modification Guidelines for STAAR Modified.
Modified tests should be clean and formatted as close to regular test as possible
Color study guides help tremendously
4. Create a concept specific study guide geared towards the assessment.
Include similar worked examples when appropriate.
Give to SPED students at least a minimum of 2 class days before assessment.
5. Make time to review as a class. “Pull it all together” one final time.
All students will benefit from this: SPED, 504, ESL, unidentified, etc.
