Page: 1 of 4 Role Purpose FCC operates and manages 10 Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC’) across Buckinghamshire on behalf of Buckinghamshire County Council. The purpose of the role of Recycling and Education Manager is to work with both the Council and the Contract Operational Team to increase public awareness of the reuse and recycling services provided at the HWRC’s. The post holder will work very closely with the councils own Waste Education Team to help promote the authorities services and messages with regard to waste minimisation. The post holder will report directly to FCC’s appointed Contract Manager. Key Responsibilities. To work with the Council and the FCC Contract Team to develop waste education promotions and activities that will raise public awareness of the services offered at the Household Waste Recycling Centers in Buckinghamshire. To liaise and work the Councils Waste Education Team to develop and implement waste education activities and schemes aimed at increasing recycling performance at the HWRC’s and diversion of waste from landfill. To support the Council Officers and stakeholders in the development of a communications plan and targeted promotions at the HWRC. To support the Council Officers in the delivery of the Authority’s own communication strategy including campaigns and public awareness communications through media such as advertising, leaflets, news papers, open days etc. To assist FCC’s own Communications and Marketing Department in communication activities aimed at raising public awareness of FCC’s services. To support both FCC internal departments and Council Officers in the auditing of recycling off-take providers used for this Contract. This will include both the collection of information relating to the services provided Page: 2 of 4 by the off-takers and the coordination of sites visits to the facilities as appropriate. To develop and undertake customer satisfaction surveys at the HWRC’s on a regular basis so as to ensure that service standards are being met. To work with FCC’s appointed reuse provider at the HWRC’s in the development of schemes and promotional activity aligned to increasing reuse performance. To work with the Councils Waste Education Team and other stakeholders within the County to promote reuse and bulky waste services provided by the Council and its partners. To collate, review tonnage data and produce reports that demonstrate how education activities could influence reuse and recycling performance at the HWRC’s. To manage and oversee the HWRC feedback program that is provided at the HWRC’s in Buckinghamshire. Assist the Contract Team and Council Officers to identify new opportunities for new recycling and reuse activities. To work with the Councils Waste Education Officers to develop and deliver interactive talks to schools and interested groups on waste minimization. To investigate and work with 3rd sector groups to promote recycling and reuse opportunities across the County. Qualifications and Experience (preferred) Educated to Degree Level Ideally holder of PGCE qualification At least 3 years post graduate work experience. Knowledge of waste industry or related industry. Must have a full valid driving license Page: 3 of 4 Personal Qualities. Good communicator both written and orally. Excellent interpersonal skills and must have the ability to communicate with all sectors of the community. Ability to work within a multi-disciplined team. Ability to work collaboratively at all levels in a capacity of adding value to the decision making process. Ability to work alone and must be self motivated. Must be honest and hardworking. It will be a condition of your employment that you will work reasonable overtime if required to do so. Training will be required & provided for this role and attendants are expected to attend training as deemed necessary for the safe and efficient operation of the site.
