DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT SERVICES For Reference Only CLASS CODE: 5604 PAY GRADE: 017 CLASS TITLE: MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST II - F/C ALLOCATION FACTOR(S) This is work administering all activities of a medical laboratory, including conducting laboratory tests to provide information for use in the diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of diseases. The employee(s) in the position(s) allocated to this class must spend a minimum of 75 percent of their time performing duties which involve contact with patients/inmates in a correctional or forensic facility or institution. Examples of work performed are not to be used for allocation purposes.) Collects body fluids for laboratory tests to provide information for diagnostic, treatment, and/or research decisions. Performs serology, immunology, immunohematology, hematology, bacteriology, urinalyses, biochemical, drug susceptibility, and/or other tests. Performs phlebotomies. Prepares and inoculates culture mediums and identifies organisms. Prepares reports of test results. Prepares reagents and chemicals. Performs preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment as required. Performs quality control testing for all procedures as required. Maintains laboratory equipment and inventory of chemicals for conducting tests. Reviews test results. Schedules maintenance of laboratory equipment. Reviews and updates laboratory testing procedures. Performs related work as required. Knowledge of medical technology practices and procedures. Knowledge of the types of laboratory tests. Knowledge of laboratory equipment and testing procedures. Knowledge of chemicals and reagents. Knowledge of the significance of laboratory tests. Skill in operating laboratory and scientific equipment for conducting tests. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS For laboratories requiring licensure: Licensed or temporarily licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in the specialty area(s) (i.e., microbiology, serology, chemistry, hematology, immunohematology, biophysics, cytotechnology, or histopathological technology) for which the laboratory is registered in accordance with Florida Statute 483 and one year of laboratory experience in the specialty area(s) to which the position is allocated; or For laboratories exempt from licensure by Florida Statute: A high school diploma or its equivalent and four years of experience in laboratory work. College or vocational/technical training can substitute at the rate of 30 semester, 45 quarter or 720 classroom hours for each year of the required experience provided such education includes three courses in the physical and/or natural sciences.
